So i quit cigs for two reasons, One: Save some money! Two: Get healthier...

So far i have acheived one of those two goals.. Im definately getting healthier. As far as saving money goes, if you look at the numbers you should theoretically save money.. But everytime i get a little cash.. Its off to the local B&M for some UPGRADES! Im not complaining, i LOVE vaping. Definately my new hobby.

Whats your guys's thoughts?

Saving money? Ermmm...no. ;)

I was smoking about $2,500 per year in cigarettes.

With my current setup I'll spend somewhere around $600 on hardware and liquid.

A savings of $1,900 in the first year.

After this year I'm pretty much set on hardware and will only be buying liquid and coils. Buying in bulk I anticipate spending around $250 next year. A savings of $2,250

And that's just me. My wife used to smoke as well, so double those savings for the two of us.

Saving money or saving your health. Which is more important to you? I've been at it for 7 months and I know I have saved some bucks but you have to look at it in the long run. After you get comfortable with what works for you, and stop upgrading, you'll stop spending.

+1 to this

I spent a lot at first and then I learned to make my own juice .After that I got my first Reo and then a Provari and now Im set for my vaping style.Still spend some on flavorings and new attys from time to time but nothing like I did at first .

Initially it cost me about $350 to get through the mumbo jumbo and find a setup I was happy with. I figure I spend about $20 a month vaping. I was spending about $40 a month smoking and dipping. Hey 20 extra $ puts almost a tank of gas in my little car. Sure I'm not saving a lot more but the price if cigs has also gone up just in the last few months since I quit. yep, I'm saving money by vaping.

Vaping can be done cheap. But if you start to drift into it being a hobby, it can cost a lot. I tell my wife that it is similar to cooking. If I wanted to cook just to eat, it can be done cheap. But if you are "learning" how to cook, you spend lots of money initially on cookware and try/error of ingredients.
Beauty of vaping is, it can turn into different types of hobby for different people. Collectors collect mods. Builders build coils. Foodies try out all kind of flavors. etc etc. These aspect of vaping sneaks up on you when you initially start. Once it becomes a hobby, "bam!" hand over your wallet. :D

I was spending about $60/month on loose tobacco, and I've spent about $300 on gear and liquid in the past 5 months, so I'm running about even. But now I have 2 mini ego batteries with 3 chargers, 2 auto 510s (gave them away), a home-built mod, a VTR, 2 rbas, a diver clone, 2 pyrex cartotanks and a refilling tool, enough kanthal and cotton to last the rest of my life, a few drip tips and beauty rings and spare o-rings, extra bottles and a syringe, a multimeter, a soldering iron, a hot glue gun, and a bunch of cartomizers, 2 18650s and 2 14500s and charger, plus enough liquid to last a couple months.
So no, I'm not saving any money yet, but if I'd spent that money on tobacco, I would have nothing to show for it but ashes and cancer.

I have been vaping since November of 2013. So far, I have purchased the following:

Ego-T(not the twist) 1100(works amazingly - produces a thick cloud of vape and great throat hits always single coil
Evod blue - another great little guy with great performance(out plays my Vamo many times over)
Two Riptech(local vape store here in Miami) purchased two variable twist batteries - another great buy
The Protank 3 from Kangertech - most likely the best tank - dual coil - great performance over and over again
Vamo v3 gun metal finish - just received it this weekend. After an entire Sat and Sunday figuring out all that you can with it I finally am almost in control of it(thanks to a thread on the forum about volts/watts) chose gun metal since I do like scratchy finishes on my mods...im not that ....

in all about 300.00 I think - the Vamo was about 50.00 and the AWI IMR 18350 batts were about 8.00

Trustfire charger about 7.00

and all my Ejuice so far are from Riptech(purchased about 20 bottles of 30ml various flavors to see what I enjoy most)

and now im waiting in the mail for my 50ft of wick and Kanthanl wire for my first coil build

although its a hobby for some, to me it's a new toy in some ways. Of course, I am not one of those spending tons on mods...but then again...im a chain-vapor freak so...

am I still smoking?...yes...but much less than before. like most, I too hope to quit but I am being more realistic now at 50. I have been smoking since 1971!!!!!!!!!!..

Incidentally, vaping my Vamo at 6.0W is great, avoiding the Volts....

have a great week

I'm saving money, saving money to buy my next rba or mod, lol. Didn't really get into vape to save money, started vaping to allow me not to smoke and not have any withdrawals form not smoking. Goal has been met and exceeded all expectations. Got my health back, doesn't hurt to breathe, and feel better than I ever have for some time now.

The cost of vaping is pretty reasonable, I mix my own juice, build my own coils, so the actual cost of vaping is pretty low. But don't let that get confused with the investments I've made for great vape gear, once the juice is gone, and I need to mix up some more, I'll still have all my gear. There is consumable cost and hobby and gear investments. Technically I don't need any more vape gear, so if I decide to buy a DNA30 mod, or a high end Mechanical mod, for personal use and pleasure, is that vape cost or entertainment?

Together, my husband and I spent around 720 to 800 on cigarettes per month. We smoked on average, two and a half packs per day together. So, despite keeping three (I keep my elderly mother in law supplied in vape gear and juice as well) people supplied I'm still saving money. Even when I add in all the carto tanks I've been buying, the premium juice, upgrades to the iTaste VV v3 and MVP 2.... I could have bought it all in one month and still would have been in the green for that month, but my purchases have spanned through from November on. Of course, it's easy to save money when you've been buying packs at $12 to $14 per pack in NYC.

12-14 a pack??? Ouch, and I thought 4 a pack was too much...

I was buying a carton of cigarettes about 2-3 times a week. I'm saving a lot of money. I usually spend $30 a week now instead of $150. I buy 2-3 bottles of juice and 2-3 heating coils. I spent ~$160 the day I bought all my vaping gear. & haven't smoked a cigarette since. I guess I'm saving a bit. I do order juice online (I'm anxiously waiting for my new ones today !!) & spent $55 this time but I ordered 4 so I think I got a decent deal.

The health factor is worth any amount of money. It is a horrible feeling knowing you should quit but couldn't. Now that I'm on the other side, the money is just a bonus. The way I feel is worth 1,000 times that amount. Forget about the money because you were already spending that anyway. It will come in time. Remember why you quit in the first place. HEALTH FIRST! :headbang:
