I must be one of the lucky ones. I am still using my original V1 daily and have never had an issue with the switch.

Sometimes first is best.

Hey Wiz,
You are right. They were the best.. Mine never had issues with the switch. Great PV.. They should have kept making them,,

When I got the V2 is when all the troubles started.. :(

So I have read Doots......I love my V1(except for the other day when I dropped it on my big toe.....You should see the bruise..LOL)Sometimes it can be a curse when you try to "Improve" too much!

Sounds like the V3 is doing ok so far!

I, for one, have been very happy with the mechanical switches on the V2 and the Protege. Yes, they need regular maintenance and Noalox works wonders. So if you're not willing to maintain a device, then they are not for you. (But don't be fooled. Other mods also recommend regular maintenance and Noalox. Just check their maintenance guides available online.)

I think I can safely say I won't buy an electrical (tact) switch device again from anyone, because they are warranted for a finite number of clicks. And when they're dead, they're dead (unless you get spare parts and a solder gun). That happened with my original Protege's tact switch.

Even on the rare occasions when I did have problems with my Protege's mechanical switch (never had any with the V2 because I did preemptive maintenance), I was always able to make it work again myself with a pencil eraser (instead of sandpaper) and Noalox.

But having said all of that, I am seriously in love with the V3. This device is rock-solid. I love the bottom, locking button. And the switch is much easier to maintain than the ones on the V2 and Protege.

First off - Thank YOU PS - just over a week and my V2 is back 'on the job'....or at least it's back from servicing.

How it can be 'lack of cleaning or regular maintenance' that this 'just cleaned/serviced' item can fire only about 1 in 5 attempts.....
15 minutes after taking it out of the package.

Exactly how often am I supposed to clean it?

My V1 is/was awesome...... has lived a good life and served well so its occasional refusals to work are accepted - and its current 'vacation' may well be a final farewell.

My question - since I no longer spend hours a day here on the forum as I did last summer/early fall -
I NEED a consistent, constant, reliable, working 5v vape....who makes it and what's it called? (PM's please)

Don't know that I'm willing to continue on with PS - great customer service is awesome... but it's that nic I want - EVERY TIME.... (please?)
52 yrs old and 30 yrs of smoking .... GONE - but only with a reliable PV.

Maintenance instructions more than 'clean the switch' or wipe the threads.... would be kewl too.

I've heard this story over and over again. You would think PS would do something to get their good reputation back but it doesn't appear they will.

Do you guys complaining not have any mechanical skills at all? I mean seriously? Yes the mechanical switch does need a once a week cleaning. Big freaking deal! The ONLY way the switch does not work is if it does not make good contact. Which means no oxidation and no delrin shards on one of the posts.

I have this switch in my V1 and here is what I do. Take the titanium ring and lightly sand it across an emery board. Pull the two posts out and simply wipe them off. Reinstall the posts and reinstall the titanium ring. Reinstall the switch and vape away. I usually get around a week before I start to get a random misfire once in a while. Also keep the threads on the tube and adapter clean. Other mods are no different. If oxidation occurs on a contact point you will have issues no matter what mod you use.

Show me one other mod that misfires as much as the V2. I have every major mod out there and none of them misfire like the V2. Read the post a couple up from this one. The individual just got it back from PS and it's still having the same issues. It might not happen to you but several people have reported misfirings everyday and they do all the recommended maintenance.

WOW -Pro Street - do I really have to take it apart every 15 minutes.... when it's freshly 'serviced'.... and literally just back from PS?

Hmmmmm- I don't mind a bit of basic maintenance... but tearing it apart that often seems just a tad extreme.
Guess I'll just keep pushing the button - HARD - and 'wiggling' it around til it 'makes good contact' - like after 3-7 seconds????

Being just a 'girl' with high IQ and low mechanical aptitude - I would think that pushing that hard and having to wiggle it around would be less than the best way to insure long life.....
and yes.... I have asked PS for instructions on maintenance/cleaning - response is still to be received.

btw - have not ever had a vape from the V2 that matches that of my 5V V1....when it's working at its best.
same batteries, same atty... I would think it 'should' be but is not as full or warm/flavorful.

Would love to understand why.

Dude.. not sure how long you've been around the PS hangout but the mech switch on the V2 has been a problem for 85% of those who purchased it. I was here when it was first invented and submitted by Monk. The design isn't the issue, it's the material.

It works in my V1 also. Flawless at 4.2 - 3.7v with the copper ring.
Even better with one punched from brass.

Taking a PV apart to clean it once a week or so isn't a big deal; you're right. But taking it apart every day to make it work is.
The titanium and stainless is a dielectric/metal incompatibility issue.
Shouldn't have ever been used together in this application.

Steve was trying to please everyone by having a ~5v device and it didn't work. Simple as that. The road to failure is paved with great ideas. This is just one of them..
Should have stopped selling them and found a permanent fix before moving forward.
Instead they started copying the designs of others that did work and created the V3. They've left everyone with the V2 on their own to do the daily maintenace and somehow consider this acceptable.

My V2 doesn't give me problems anymore because I sold it.

I like the V3 with the GG slim, exact copy, bottom button design.

Sorry, but as long as there are customers to buy the new devices, the old devices aren't that important. You've got to get the new devices out as soon as possible and then the next and then the next. ;)

Very true but had they taken care of their loyal customers they would have alot more sales of the V3. Since they just washed their hands of the problems with the V2 switch they lost my business and many others.

It's too bad... I swore by PS when I got my first Prodigy... Then the V2 came out, along with the mech switches (which don't work correctly, usually)... and I bought into it... Now the V3 is out... and I assume we'll see a V4, V5, V6, etc... with PS all-the-while dropping support for previous versions, leaving hundreds or thousands of users out in the cold.

One could argue that they have warranty and repair services, but that only washes IF the actual repairs make a usable product. As I originally stated when I began this thread, the repaired items barely work any better than before I sent them in... and frankly, I'm tired of sending my stuff in. A product should just *work*, period.

Jesus people the V1 was amazing. The V2 had some switch issues that could be corrected with maintenance and noalox so they came out with the V3 to fix those issues and the V3 has no issues at all. What exactly do you people want? Do you want me to make a HD video showing how to maintain a prodigy? The main problem was the contact areas would get oxidized and cause missfires. Thats it that was the problem. Noalox and once a week maintenance solves that problem.

For you maybe but not everyone. Some would do this and have the same problems 1 hour later.
