Anyone try the recipe for Mojito and ended up with a weird cotton candy type taste?

Ive been trying to mimic Pinkspot's Raspberry Mojito which I think is a pretty awesome flavor. I started using Bluemist's Mojito concentrated flavoring but then I decided to up my game by mixing my own mojito flavor since the one from bluemist has a really limey taste. the recipe i found is on ECF here:

BY:MaxUT on
ECFMojito
6ml batch
1.0ml PA Jamaican Rum
0.6ml PA Brown Sugar
0.2ml PA Lime
1 drop PA Spearmint (or slightly less)
1 drop EZ-Sweetz sweetener
4.2 ml VG base, 80% VG / 20% distilled water*

The Spearmint is really strong. I advise cutting a small quantity to 25% strength with PGA and then adding about 3 drops of that mixture unless you want the spearmint to stand out.
Be careful with the Lime too, it’s also potent.
*could try using Dark Rum liquor in place of distilled water for a more authentic taste and possibly better throat hit.

I replaced the lime with raspberry in hopes that it would taste like Pinkspot's but it did not taste very similar at all. I was also using FA or PA for the raspberry, and I know I should have used Lorann's since their raspberry is far more flavorful. I could see how this recipe could be like the raspberry mojito from pinkspot but theirs is more mentholy and sweeter, and i just cant get it quite there. I have ehtyl Maltol(i didnt add becuase i still dont really know what to do with it) and menthol crystals which i mixed with PG to make into drops. Im gonna try again once my order from Lorann's has come in and hopefully it will be a better result. But i feel like im missing some secret "sweet menthol" addition to the recipe. Anyone know how to add that? It seems like alot of Pinkspot's flavors have that same menthol like taste to most of their flavors, anyone have any luck making it taste that way?

Please excuse my ignorance on this flavor, but the drink mojito consists of lime, mint, sugar muddled then add rum. From what I am seeing, you do not want a mojito at all, because you don't want lime or mint?

Perhaps going back to basics may help you get it right? If they are calling it a raspberry mojito, then here is a recipe for the drink. As you can see, it is still the basic plus a tad of raspberry.

Handful fresh mint leaves
3 whole fresh raspberries
juice of 1 lime
2 teaspoons sugar
Ice
1 1/2 ounces spiced rum
Splash club soda

I see your point, however the lime flavor is very strong. So I feel that if I were to use any lime in the flavoring, it would result in a lime aftertaste which im trying to avoid. For the most part the recipe looks the same. I beleive the brown sugar is there instead of sugar. and spearmint instead of mint leaves. and jamaican rum instead of spiced rum.
