looking at machining a battery mod and was curious if aluminum would work as opposed to stainless tubing? Itd be a mech mod for an 18650 battery, obviously it wouldnt be as durable but was curious if itd work or be safe even? Im new to this and need some input/advice thanks!
Sure it would work and be safe even too. Alu is better conductivity than SS, but it is softer so threading is not as durable, if that is in your plans. Structurally, 1mm wall is quite strong but it can scratch quite easily. If it is anodized it will hold up to surface scratches much better.
I second asdaq's comment. I have used aluminum before in mods as it has great conductivity over stainless. It is also a whole lot easier to work with especially with hand tools.
I own an Al Vamo v2, wife, daughter, BF, SIL, BIL also have one. Got them from FT, have used them since Feb 2014, and all have worked well. These are the first Al mods I've had experience with but both finish and function have been great.
