Recent incident....

A dear friend of mine ended up going into the hospital because of a heart attack. I went with her kids to see as to how she was doing.

Thank god I had my E-cig... I was vaping like a Rave....

I heard "Miss? Miss?" and Liz motioned that the nurse was speaking to me. I turned my head and the nurse said that there was no smoking...

I took apart my e-cig explaining what it was and put it back together....

She said "I was wondering why I didnt smell anything!" haha gave her a bunch of information on it... and went about my vaping way...

I used mine in the dentist office today he and the assistants think there great and are going to tell patients that smoke about this new alternative. they think there great

But you cannot smoke on kaiser permenente hospital property period you have to go to someplace off the property to smoke but my friends wife that works there just goes outside to vape but it's not nasty weather out yet either

You cannot smoke at Loma Linda hospital or the university campus been that way for years
But you cannot smoke in public in the city of Loma Linda either and yes it is run by the smoking nazi's

I just spent 3 days with a close relative in the hospital, spending the nights there. I vaped openly the whole time (at first I was so focused on what was happening medically I didn't even think about it), and except for the nurse who kept arguing with me about how nicotine itself was a carcinogen (yes, but orders of magnitude less dangerous than the other stuff in tobacco smoke), the staff was only curious, nobody suggested that I couldn't/shouldn't vape in the hospital (in the cardiac unit, yet).

There are generally three reactions when people figure out what I'm doing:

1) That's so cool. How can I/my relative/my friend get one of those?

2) Are you sure it's not as dangerous as smoking?

3) You're cheating your way around the smoking ban, you ........ I don't care if you're not actually smoking, and if you're absolutely no danger to others, you're cheating.

My father-in-law put off knee surgery for two years until I gave him a 510 and (finally) convinced him to use it. He loved it but I created a monster, he doesn't own a PC (doesn't want one) but calls me almost daily to excitedly report his "findings" and I finally had to order a sampler pack of liquid from other suppliers just so he wouldn't "test-vape" everything in his kitchen cupboard.

Oh yeah, and he DID finally get the surgery. I have no doubt he'd have put it off until it was too late if it weren't for e-cigs.

Hi there, new to this forum, but I just wanted to add that I also work in a hospital. We are a non smoking campus. Employees and visitors all have to leave campus to smoke. I am a Nutritionist and I vap in my office, in the bathrooms... wherever nobody but my immediate coworkers can see me. They are all fine with it, actually, all but one crotchety old lady is in full support. I wouldn't try it out in the open in front of just anyone though. I like being able to vap at work. I'm afraid if it gets to well known that I vap at work, someone will tell me I have to stop.

Im an EMT and I vape in the ER all the time, especially when I got to deal with some ronchy nurse who has a stick in her ..., Ive seen people vaping in the waiting room alot too. I usually try to be away from other ppl when I vape though, but if no one is around, I say vape away.

I dont vape when I have a pt in the back, simply because they cant see from the back that its not a real cig. and it distracts me from driving, I do vape in the ambulance when we dont have a pt. during down time, and sometimes on the way to a call, not priority calls though (lights and sirens) just because I need to be hands free, and focused

One way ive found helped me with co-workers, and other people is I tell them about it before they actually see me do it. No one has had a problem with it.

My local hospital has a 'No Smoking on the Premises' policy, which even holds to doing so in your personal transportation! Staff, patients and guests have to make a 5-10 min trek (not everyone walks fast...) to the boundary gates in order to satisfy any cravings they may have. At any point during the day you could see quite a few people hanging around puffing away like mad. (I have always had a bad opinion about yo-yoing your nicotine satisfaction)

Recently the E-Cig came up in a discussion for banning ALL tobacco related products. The E-Cig is relatively new to this area, and there isn't a lot of knowledge about it. I am happy to report that due to a lot of vaper's efforts (yours truly included :)), vaping has been allowed! They would just like it kept discreet. Since it looks soooo much like smoking, they don't want anyone to be alarmed and get out their torches and pitchforks.

IMHO if medical staff operating on me were to have nic fits, I would be handing them my e-cig and plenty of fresh batteries and juice to go with. :D

Today I went to see my doctor and while in the waiting room, which is in a Medical office building where the waiting room serves for 10 or more docs, but since it was friday there were only a few people. But I did vape and one woman looked at me, and I simply told her what it was and she was interested. I then told the doctor about the e-cig and he was happy for me. I didn't ask him if I could do it in the waiting room, but he had no problem with me doing it in the exam room however.
