First, I have to say, I LOVE my 901. I've had no "side effects" that are common (I'm takiing it slowly), but one of the issues I'm having is that my vision has significantly changed in the last few days. I can only think that it's due to "dry eye", related to dehydration. Three years ago I had LASIK done. I've noticed since then that if I'm very tired (or dehydrated) that my vision changes/fluctuates. My eyes feel very irritated.

Unfortunately, my hubby is the one who's scared. Go figure. He hates my analog smoking. In fact, he has to use a prescription inhaler because of me. But he's such a great guy that he won't complain, but I know...

He overheard me telling my mom that this is not FDA approved. Now he's decided that analog is better than vaping. Long story made short... I can't convince him that smell, secondhand smoke, my health, his health, etc...etc... well, I know you all have heard all of this before.

So, I was doing so well... only had 3 analogs today until he got upset, now I'm upset and have had 2 more. I have $5k eyes invested...LOL...any advice???

Yep, the only way to combat dehydration is to drink more water. Soda, Coffee, Tea, etc does not count as water! ;) One plus though, you'll get less empty calories and it's very healthy for your body. If you don't drink enough water, you'll be amazed how you look and feel once you start getting the appropriate amount. Keeps away Kidney stones too.

Sorry, I'm studying to become a licensed massage therapist, so I'm having healthy living drilled into me. :D

I had the eye surgery several years ago. I find that when my eyes get dry or if I'm very tired, I have trouble with my vision. So you're probably right about the dehydration affecting your vision.

Personally, I'd make a conscious effort to hydrate with water, and if I were still having problems after a few days of that, I'd go see the doctor just to make sure.

As for my husband, I think I'd share with him some of the information out there by Dr. Siegel. Here's a link to get you started:

The Rest of the Story: Tobacco News Analysis and Commentary: Senator and Anti-Smoking Groups Want to Ban Less Harmful E-Cigarettes and Protect the Most Toxic Ones

Good luck. :)

Since the day I had my Lasik surgery in 2004, I moisten my eyes with artificial tears once a day in the morning ( would do it more if I felt I needed to). I just get the cheapie brand at walmart. And since vaping, yes....I did need to increase fluids for several dehydration issues.

So as the others say, keep hydrated....and I would try some eye drops to moisten them up a bit too. That is what they recommended to me when I had it done anyway.

WAHT!

That my impression of a person with vision problems posting on this thread.

So your saying if you get laser eye treatment, it makes your eyes dry out every day and you have to keep dripping, like the scene from clockwork orange?

bmacva, relative to your hubby, he sounds like a great guy who loves you very much. Therefore, I think honestly expressing your feelings and negotiating a middle ground would work.

Here is what I would suggest. Negotiate that you will make an ophthalmologist appointment for the beginning of next week (unless further symptoms occur or the problem gets worse) and that in the meantime that you will rehydrate yourself with water and the suggested re-wetting eye drops for people that have had eye surgery. And, during this one week window ask that, regardless of his concerns/worries that he support you 100%. In exchange, your commitment to him would be that when you see the eye doctor that you will follow his advise 100%.

Additionally, you could ask him to register here at ECF and to post his concerns so that all of us can help him. Thus, giving him an outlet for his fears/worries and taking the stress off of you to respond to his concerns.

My hubby worries, too. But, I get the one sentence comments like, "I hope this doesn't...". In all probability most of our loved ones worry, but I think most of them are also grateful that we are attempting to do nicotine harm reduction.

Hi bmacva, I'm a dry eye sufferer as well. A consequence of wearing contacts for over 30 years and yes, probably age related. Have noticed that the vaping seems to worsen this condition but given other more positive "side effects" I'm sticking with it.

Don't know about drinking more water to alleviate the eyes; dry eye, according to my eye doctor and articles I've read is mostly a result of thinning retinas brought on by extended contact wear, age, genetic inclination and yes, lasik surgury. I'm sitting here right now tearing so much (worst in the morning) that it's causing rivulets running down my face.

Do you see floaters as well? Meaning sometimes when your eyes are watery do you see darkish particles moving across your line of vision? It will appear as if they're tiny bits of ~something~ moving across your eyeball...

If so, it could be a symptom/warning sign of detached retinas. While dry eye is usually only an annoyance, detaching retinas are very serious and require surgury to repair so you should go see a doctor.

As far as the dry eye, it is treatable. I use prescription drops called Restasis which help to restore tears in the glands, and Opcon-A, which relieves itchiness and redness. For before bed, Refresh Liquigel, which is OTC, is very good. I use it before bed because it's very goopy, almost like melted vaseline, so your vision will be a little obscured (temporarily), but boy does it feel good and the next morning my eyes feel much better.

Sorry to go on so much, but I hope at least some of this info helps-

And please, make an appointment with your doctor.

Thanks everyone for your responses! I will talk to him today about these great suggestions.

BTW, my mom thought it was wonderful! She's a smoker too and is now thinking of growing her own tobacco. LOL, she's 82 and I'd like to see her try that one. And no, she's not a "gadget" person...she'd never be able to handle the e-cig. She can't even operate a remote control or a cell phone. :)

Hi Bea, you must have been posting at the same time I was. I do have floaters; I've had them most of my life. My doctor has said they are harmless. A sign of a detached retina is when you see a "veil" come down over your eye. Now that's an emergency!

I'm going to go get some of that Refresh Liquigel, that sounds great!!! :)

Despite denials from the health brigade, coffee, tea and soda all replenish fluids in your system, albeit with the 'added extras' of sugar, caffeine etc.

Do a search on here or on Google for humectant and you will have your answer. PG & VG are humectants and absorb moisture, that is why they are added to foodstuffs, to stop then drying out. Liquids and eye drops should work, but visit your doctor/optician armed with info on PG/VG to make sure and to reassure your husband who obviously cares a lot.

My problem is vaping seems to make my sinuses even more loopy!!
Vick is making more out of me than big T though so that's okay!:)
Alan.

Several times (before e-cigs) and a couple times after starting
e-cigs,I've gone blind from too much time staring at this stupid computer screen. I don't even normally wear glasses, but when this happens,I wouldn't even think about trying to drive an automobile or anything of that nature. When I wake in the morning, all is back to normal.
uh ooh...eyes are starting to burn now ...rub,rub time to go out and work in the garden.Good luck to you!
P.S. I have almost $5,000 invested in e-cig paraphenalia lol

Yes, soda, coffee, etc does help rehydrate, I was being a bit facetious since that's what I hear all day in class. :) However, sugar and caffeine are diuretics in themselves, so if you're already dehydrated they can cause you to be even more dehydrated. Drink a Red Bull and see how much and how soon you have to pee. ;)

Water is better, but yeah, I drink more than my fair share of pepsi too.

By the way. what are you vaping, liquid. carts PG or VG?
Alan.

You guys are all just great!!! :D

Mostly I vape the ejuice I ordered from myvaporstore.com. I really like the Virginia flavor, btw. I have glycerine I bought from Michael's....I am assuming that it is VG? I don't use it much though, only to cut the 24mg liquid I have.

I also think that the pollen is not helping matters any. :(

Well, any fluid is better than no fluid at all. However, I tend to drink too much coffee and not enough water anyway, so I'm already at a disadvantage. I'm a nurse. I should know better. :D
