I just ordered eight from them yesterday. I got the link to Illumn from this websites battery resources document. I bought some VTC4 from them last week and those were legit and at a very good price. I'm sure that we will be safe with the VTC5s from Illumn but when I ordered mine yesterday, the order stated they will be on back order, even though they say in stock. Either way $10 a pop is "okay" and Illumn seems pretty legit.

Got my shipping confirmation and the vtc5s will be here this Monday. Not bad for free shipping. As far as them being authentic I'm 100% they are. I recall awhile back Illumn shipped out a few fake vtc5s and by what I understand they were pretty transparent about the issue and made the situation right with all that got the fakes.

Orbtronic also has new VTC5s in stock, directly from Sony.

Orbtronic sells their own branded batteries as well as batteries from other manufacturers. They only deal directly with manufacturers, never 3rd party suppliers. If they got VTC5s you can believe they are legit.

I asked RTD Vapor about their new stock of VTC5s.
They responded with:

"Thank you for contacting us about these batteries. We get our Sony batteries from the same trusted source as we have in the past. The VTC5 have started to be produced again and ours where made in April of this year. We have tested them and are 100% confident in the authenticity of them."

I guess VTC5s are back.

You may want to check This Thread regarding current VTC5 performance...

TLDR..? Better off buying 25r's.

So based on this and the latest posts in this thread - the 3 VTC5's I got from DNAvapor(got them in the mail today) are in fact legit VCT5's but they are only 20A cells? I got these because I wanted to run .2 arctic dual coils on my mech mod. Using an online calculator it would put the amps at 21 with a full charge. Is this still considered safe territory or should I purchase 25R's instead?

Sorry if there's another forum that this question should be in but I wanted to know before I screw that baby on and get a face full of fire, lol

The VTC5's and 25R's are both 20A cells so there wouldn't be much of a difference between them at those current levels. The 25R does run a few degrees cooler than the VTC5 though. The VTC4 also runs a few degrees cooler than the VTC5 at 20A or so but you'll get about 30% less running time using the VTC4 compared to the VTC5 or 25R.

I say stick with the VTC5's for now and see how it goes. You'll be pulsing the cells so you won't really need to worry about the difference in temperature between them and 25R's. And if your mech ever gets locked on (button failure, etc.) the VTC5's still won't reach a high enough temperature to vent at 21A. When the VTC5's finally wear out, you can get some 25R's. :)

    Awesome, thanks for the help!

I should add that while running a single 20A-rated battery at 21A might not be really dangerous, it's still a spectacularly high current level for any single cell! I recommend going to dual batteries if you are going to exceed about 50% of the battery's rating. Not only for extra safety but also to increase the life of the battery considerably.

But, I know that dual battery mods are bigger than a lot of people want to use. Vaoe safe and choose what works for you. :)
