I got 3 Kayfuns from fasttech, 1 ES 3.1 and 2 KFL. The ES I got first. First day of use, melted the insulator. Had to take it to shop to replace all the insulators. Then, I just checked my KFL, and...well...this is what happened with the insulator. Has anyone else had any problems?

I am no expert, but if it was me (using a non-adjustable battery), I would be making the coil to about 1.6 ohms.

A fresh battery will put out about 4.1 volts initially. Feeding your 0.9 ohm coil 4.1v is 18.7 watts (4.6 amps current draw) .... that's alot

A 1.6 ohm coil getting fed 4.1v will = 10.5 watts (2.6 amps current draw) .... much better

^Voltage drop should be considered when figuring out your heat/power level. I use 4.2 to figure out my current needs, but I get an inline meter to figure out the voltage drop under that specific load.

They're more than likely not derlin insulators, which holds up to heat rather well. Look into replacements, may be best to get "authentic replacements."

I also have a fast tech 91 clone going at 0.7ohms..and it has been for a few months now..no issues, but I'm using a horizontal coil.

Edit- I didn't notice your wick is going straight through that vertical... Your coil isn't getting cooled down properly. If you want to use verticals with a bottom airflow atomizer, you need to wrap your wick around the coil.

Push wick up and leave at least .7-1mm gap
Make certain Center pin is Clean and secure.
Double check Ground connection - Clean and conductive.
Clean your Mod 510 connector well.

5 KFL here - ALL FT and no problems.

Yours definitely looks like a localized heat issue (Shorting)
Maybe your Insulator pad was damaged.

that's one burnt looking kayfun my friend and not surprised the plastic melted. non of that black stuff should be there at all so something is definitely causing the heat which in turn melted the insulator. what did it vape like before this happened? oh wait, I just looked again at your pic, what kind of set up is that? wrong set up my friend, looks like your coil is sitting on the deck, screws and everything else. also what is that wick doing? it looks like you have a vertical coil but have wick thru it. I think you need some changes to your set up.
