@Marina2 said "Goodnight.. I think you're gonna sleep well :)"

I wish. Pain is still waking me up. I hate dozing in and out of sleep. I may have to take some of the oxy my doc prescribed but I REALLY don't like codine. I'd rather stay awake in pain than take that stuff. I'm such a whiner and sissy.....lol

At least I'm enjoying my new shiny.:vapor::vapor::vapor:

I would have been the except to that rule, I had to sit with my youngest daughter when she was an infant while she had 2 spinal taps, after that anything is cake
That would harden you to anything else. Spinal taps are scary. You have to be perfectly still in the correct position and to think of anything going into your spine let alone your baby daughter's.
Two things I hated doing in maternity... epidurals and circumcisions. :( One wrong move in either one of them...

I thought you were talking about the oxy. :D

You should take whatever will allow you sleep and never let the pain get bad before you take the meds. You'll be miserable tomorrow if you don't.

Oh no, that must have been very hard to take. I can kill game, field dress and butcher them but can't handle see anyrhing or anyone suffer in pain. I can't even watch the slips and falls on AFV; not funny imo.

lol, it's a skill far too many nurses lack. I love to do it... that "pop" when you first get through and then the flashback. It's very satisfying. I had to get up out of a deep sleep once and drive to a patients house at 2 am because 3 nurses before me failed to get blood from our man.

No oxy yet. I usually just take Tylenol or Nsaids for pain. Codine makes me nauseous in a big kinda way so if I took it I'd probably just wake up sick like when I severed 2 fingers many years ago. And yes, I took it with food.
One of those severed fingers is the one I cut up today. "Mr. Stubby, my wife calls it". I lost the tip of that finger at age 15, amputated to the first knuckle at age 25 and cut it to bone today. I guess I don't need that finger cuz it seems I'm getting rid of it a piece at a time...doh!

Oh man, that's terrible to think you might be trying to get rid of that finger... just stop already!! As far as the nausea... I can understand that. I'd rather be cut then have nausea and vomiting :) Guess you just have to pick your battle and go with it. Good luck with whatever you go with.

Also, you may want to ask your doctor to prescribe you an antiemetic if you feel you need to take the oxy. Nausea is a general side effect with the opoids (no codeine in them) so it can help.

I always figured if I could hit one upside down, in the dark, at 80mph...someone in a nice well lit, quiet, non moving room should have been able to hit one. IV is an art form, isn't it?

Red... every emt or paramedic I've ever known can hit a vein. Like you said, y'all can do it in your sleep. Thing is, that's what emts and paramedics do... sustain life until you can reach the hospital and that almost ALWAYS involves an IV and fluids/meds. Nurses, on the other hand, can go through their entire career without ever having had to access a vein. And many do, then find themselves in a situation where they need to do it and can't. We all learn it in school but sadly, many don't keep up the skill or ever develop it in the first place. :(

Lol...I guess I was spoiled with ER nurses who could always hit one. Well, except one...and she'd have 4-5 sticks and when she'd see any of us in the ER, she'd ask for help. She blew both Ac's once, and got sooo mad I had to start one in a foot. You should have been there...it was priceless! Any RN who gets first try has my respect.

Well, the ER nurses get a lot of practice just like the EMTs. Trauma usually involves an IV. Every now and then though, you'd get a new hire that doesn't know how to do one. And if she's smart, she'll stop trying to grab the nearest EMT or RN to do it and just suck it up and learn to do it herself, lol. She won't last long in the ER otherwise. And every RN should be able to get the ac on the first try (unless the person is 90 or has used and abused it themselves) :D

Merry Christmas to everyone, I know I cant win again for a while, but I can still enjoy the company, and rave about alk the luscious juices I have one, they are all absolutely delicious, and when they run put it will be a sad day....except for that one small bottle of sugar but that is in hiding for emergency situations, I know where I put it but I want.to forget about it being there so that temptation is gone
Lol! I got 2 bottles last week, Viva Las Nanas and Apple Pie, from the 12 days of juicemas promotion and both are half gone already. It hasn't even been a week, lol! That Viva Las Nanas is addictive. I wanna swim in it. :D

Agreed. After I got off the ambulance, I worked in an ER for awhile. The nurses had me do almost every IV...lol...
