OK, I rewiked it this morning. Here some pics of the build that I had in there:

Then I re-wicked by cutting the tails of the wick at an angle and running them down the channels about half way down, without touching the bottom of the channel:

So far, not bad, but not as saturated as my KFL double barrel. I'll recoil it with dual 1/16" in the weekend and see how that goes.

Hi divrr,

Lol, Those pics were on my first coiling on my tank, not the OP. My tank worked great but thanks for the analysis. It may make my second recoiling job easier. Going to the inside will stop the outside coil from deformity.

my bad. anyways I guess its just what your used to, and although going inside may slightly be better for coil deformity it doesn't stop it all together. I find that going inside helps but you still need to keep the coils kind of held during the tightening process. I have a double rod, sort of like an elongated U, I insert both ends of this U through both coils once mounted and then tighten. being both are lashed together, they don't move when I tighten the screws. anyways sorry for the misplaced post.

The perfect coil/wick setup for the Aqua:

Vertical Coils (28g)

Hemp fiber strands for the channels

Coils wrapped in hemp fiber

I have tried this set up quite a few times in my aqua and although it works great, theres not that much of a difference imo. what I have found with this vertical set up is that the airflow is slightly inhibited because of all the wicking material. I also feel slightly more heat on the outside of the device because of this. also because I bottom fill I feel like the hemp is going to fall out or move as I reassemble. what I do like about the vert set up is that its so easy to mount the coils compared to horizontal.

That is a great idea, with the right size U rod it surely would be an easier install. I watched a YouTube video covering the aqua build and that is where I believe I got the idea to go outside the posts. I need to rebuild my aqua tonight so I will let you know.

You're right about bottom fill, that's not possible, as for airflow, the way you wrap it is most important, you should put toothpick in the coils when wrapping and not use too much hemp, the channel strands should be thick to cover the inside of the coils. No problems with overstuffed channels, as the hemp wicks fine
