So are flashlights. It just seems there are two distinct camps. One that uses electronics as regulation, an the other that is little more than a flashlight, with a glow plug and a wick instead of a light bulb.

Not that it irks me, I just wanna tell them "uh, it gets a lot more electronic than this, dude".

Yeah, but it's a distinction that's waaaay over the heads of most vapers, let alone non-vapers. Electricity, not combustion, provides the energy, and the word "electronic" is used as an adjective to delineate this difference; to wit, it means "not typical" cigarette. That's actually the part that picks my peas. Apparently we're "not smoking", whereas I prefer to think of us doing our own thing (i.e., vaping). For that reason, I won't use "e-cig" and 'correct' people who try to with me.

"Electric" versus "electronic" is largely a marketing issue - "electric" reads as the 70's, "electronic" reads as 21st century. Not a single engineer was involved in that decision.

Im curious. My mech is deemed an "electronic cigarette" by a lot of people who know absolutely nothing about vaping. I can see my e-lvt, or my MVP as "electronic", as well as any regulated right up to a Ferrari, I mean ProVari. My mech seems to be in a different league. More "electric" than "electronic".

How do you see it?

Never thought about it so I looked up the definition of electronic and I think it applies to any electric circuit;

" 1. Of or relating to electrons "

I don't know about electronic but none of our devices should be deemed as cigarettes. I really wish the whole industry would drop the term.

Would you prefer we call them Personal Electronic Nicotine Inhalation Systems instead?
Personal Vaporizer would work or just PV. What were using does not in any way relate to the definition of a cigarette and if anything, just adds to the bad press and biased opinions.

cigarette
[sig-uh-ret, sig-uh-ret]
noun

a cylindrical roll of finely cut tobacco cured for smoking, considerably smaller than most cigars and usually wrapped in thin white paper.

I went a different route and looked up 'electrical'

1. 'electric'
You use electric in front of nouns to talk about particular machines or devices that use electricity.
The boat runs on an electric motor.
I switched on the electric fire.
2. 'electrical'
You use electrical when you are talking in a more general way about machines, devices, or systems that use or produce electricity. Electrical is typically used in front of nouns such as equipment, appliance, and component.
They sell electrical appliances such as dishwashers and washing machines.
We are waiting for a shipment of electrical equipment.
You also use electrical to talk about people or organizations connected with the production of electricity or electrical goods.
Jan is an electrical engineer.
They work in the electrical engineering industry.
3. 'electronic'
You use electronic to talk about a device that has transistors or silicon chips that control and change the electric current running through the device, or to describe a process or activity using electronic devices.
Mobile phones, laptops and other electronic devices must be switched off.
They use electronic surveillance systems.
electrical - definition of electrical by The Free Dictionary

So with this stated, a mech would get termed an electrical cigarette or electrical vaporizer due to the third point in the list.

Amen. 'Cigarette' refers to a specific form factor, for one thing. As I look at my reo (a box mech mod) with it's RDA, I am loath to use "cigarette" to describe it at all.

Buuuuut... cigarettes are the primary thing smokers are being enticed away from and so the bridge term 'e-cigarette' is used as an enticement, as in "it's like what you're smoking now, only better". Marketing - it works and it sticks.

The problem I see is that that same conflation (vaping = a different kind of cigarette) is hurting us with regulation and public perception.

Sorry, I was being flippant. Think about the acronym...

I wonder if the term would really exist if it wasn't for the ciga-like products that none of us even use.
