The problem is the the CDC is not accounting for the teens that would have smoked rather than used an e-cig. Nor the fact that people can and do use 0 nic or that even if they do not.. Nicotine is naturally occurring in several foods that people eat all of the time.

I have personally never heard of a person vaping and then switching to analogs if they had not been an analog smoker before hand.

Perhaps The ANTZ are too busy trying to get adults to stay on the patch, gum, tobacco, and ignoring the fact they are supposed to be an educational show, not a car salesmanship show. Take a look around you, all you see is propaganda touting how dangerous eCigs MIGHT be, and how everybody should stick with their "chosen" products. They even have more ANTZ sites up than ever before, trying to scare adults away from eCigs. This is an ongoing issue. Take a look at the date of this article.

One of my favorite comments in that article:
"The "Office" on smoking and health? Why is the CDC the marketing arm for Johnson and Johnson patches and gums? Why is the CDC telling people to go and buy these products that don't work? Why is the CDC spending tens of millions of tax dollars doing advertising campaigns to get people to call Quitlines that are run by a very profitable private company. Why, if second hand smoke kills everybody, is anyone left alive? Why are scientists paid by our government to produce junk science?

WHY won't the New York Times tell this story? (J&J and Pfizer.Chantix ad money?)

Oops, didn't finish my thought.

So, lately, with pressure added, someone came up with a brave idea. The kids! Lets fear mongering about Flavors and kids. That should keep everyone happy while we continue focusing on keeping adults addicted to patches and gum.

My hubby's drs mom has been addicted to the Nicolette gum for 20 years. I know there are others out there.

Kids - I started taking a puff or 2 at 14 years old, then started to buy at 17 or so. Is this something new?
W-T-F !
Gateway - Gateway to what?, vaping fruit, I think not..
I do know for me, (and lot's of others here) after starting to vape and give up the cigs, my taste buds hate the tobacco burning taste, so where's that figure in there, if the kids vape a watermelon flavor, they really are looking to jump to nicotine or the real cig.. W-T-F!

This is the voice of today
WE THE PEOPLE are not the ones who decides on how we choose to live the life we live ....
WE let it get to this point on thousands of issues, this ones effects us, the vapors who are quitting the cigarettes in droves.
IT IS NOT OUR DECISION to let this happen, as we want it to...THE PEOPLE IN CHARGE OF OUR LIVES WILL DECIDE FOR US what we really need..
How do you feel about all the other issues around us that have no bearing on OUR lives, or lifestyle.. Do you voice your support for or against it ??? Probably -- it doesn't concern you..
This is how it is done, take a little something from one, then from someone else. then after a while, there is nothing left to take from any group any more,, because the little groups never had enough support from the larger corrupted opposition in the first place..
Add it all up,, if you let liberty slide one inch, it will swell to porportions so large that even a large group can not get back the rights and beliefs that used to be so dear to us.. That was in the old days..(What a Cliche')
So, just keep talking about, no one hears us anyway..You have to fight actism with better, stronger, louder, actism..
We may not have the money, but we have the bodies... AND Healthier ones at that..
OK - back to my regularly scheduled Vape ! - this was a recording....

...Exactly. I can tell you I was ADDICTED to the patch for 5 years, spending a fortune. Couldn't get off it. Every time I took a vacation I would rip the patch off and smoke like a chimney. Every time I tried to wean myself off the patch I smoked, couldn't do it. Until I bought an ecig and have not even been tempted to smoke or buy another patch ever again.

I was in a particularly crowded brick & mortar vape supply store last week.

I counted the people inside. 32 customers. Of those, there were three who looked like college students, i.e. probably reached voting age in the last year or two.
Interestingly, 12 of the 32 customers looked old enough to have grown up on the same music I did, which is to say, The Four Tops or the first couple of Joan Baez albums.

Between these forums, and the in-store experience last week, just offhand, I'd more readily believe that vaping is a more a gateway to the senior discounts at movie theaters than it is to teens accoutering themselves with Marlboros.

Who knows for sure what attracts the younger crowd......BT TV ads maybe.....

CDC director Tom Frieden characterized this trend as "deeply troubling."

But not troubling enough for them to do an independent, non-biased, 100% scientific study of e-cigs,
guess it will depend on who stuffs the $$$ in their pocket.
As in the other posts..."follow the money" :glare:

theres this booth at the mall near my house. the vape booth is literally 20 feet from a fountain that kids and babies play at. and its right next to the food court (outdoor mall).
and i when i stop by to get some juice, i always see some high school kids walking around the booth tryna get some stuff (the mall is near like 3 high schools) idk if its a bad location but its weird seeing all these young ones exposed to this.

Being exposed to something safer than tar and toxins from the cigarettes they are already addicted to? Being exposed to something they can tell their smoking parents about to help them find a way to at least slow down if not quit? Exposed to what exactly?

well im a firm belieber (see what i did there) of vaping vs. smoking. tried to convert all my smoker friends and family. but i mean as a young child. being exposed to something like vaping vs. not being exposed at all. even if it is way way way less harmful than cig smoking, i try not to vape in front of kids. does that make sense.

I smoked in front of my daughter who is now 24, guess what she don't smoke or Vape, so no it doesn't make sense to me.....

I've always felt that if raised and given choices they well choose the correct path, I don't need my damn government telling me how to live my life or raise my family. Make Sense?

Making such a big deal about vaping is more likely to get a younger person interested than the habit itself. Not directed at the OP in any way but this issue makes me crazy. Gotta love big brother ... "oh look, something that has people that tried for years finally getting off tobacco ... but tobacco companies bought my last 4 cars ... hmmm no long term studies, scary buzz words ... I know lets make it a health device and restrict access, yeah that's a good plan. As a wiser man once said ... if you want to ruin a good thing get the government involved. OK rant over and to answer your actual question ... no I don't believe that e-cigs will attract people to smoking that would not be just as likely to try analogs.
