Are e-cigs going to be effective for me?

Hey all, I'm a fairly recent smoker (don't tell me to quit) and as my smoking has crept up I'm becoming a little concerned about cost and impact on my fitness.

I really enjoy smoking and don't want to give it up completely, but I am curious about the e-cig as a way to bring down the cost a little bit and make it a little easier on my lungs.

I've heard however that e-cigarettes don't give the same effect as the tobacco cigarettes do. Will e-cigarettes satisfy me the way tobacco cigs do? There's a difference between freeing me from craving toruture and actually satisfying the need. Are e-cigs satisfying?

Also, I've heard a lot about how the cartridges last less than the manufacturors say they do and then having to replace the batteries pretty frequenly. I usually take a lot of drags on my cigarettes (I guess I want to get my money's worth lol). given what I've said wpuld e-cigs be cost effective? I also heard that e-cigs have to frequently be recharged.

I just want to continue to smoke, but also be a little nicer on my lungs and heart by supplementing with the e-cig.

Thanks guys

I believe if you are dedicated to switching to vaping, then e cigs will definitely be successful for you. At first it takes some willpower to not light up, but if you can stay away from analogs for a week or two, you will begin to only crave vaping, and not analogs. I have been vaping for about 4 or 5 months now, and the thought of an analog disgusts me. I would highly recommend that if you wish to make a step into the world of vaping, that you get one of the more popular PV's (510, 901, kr808 etc) and a bottle of juice. My experience tells me that the more 'flashy' PV's (blu, volcano etc) are nowhere near as good as the previously mentioned PVs.

I've a smoker for most of 40 years. I dropped analogs entirely after about 10 days of vaping with a Joye 510.

Yes, batteries have to be recharged periodically. Some of them out there will last 12 hours or more depending on how much you vape. Prefilled cartridges don't last very long but I get the sense that most folks here drip their own juices either directly or into empty carts. Prefilled carts can be reused that way. Atomizers fail after a time to so you can't just depend on 1 or 2.

I've been doing the e-cig thing for only a little over 2 weeks and I have a pretty good handle on things. I've been completely smoke free for a week now and am NOT missing it.

Others will have their own recommendations based on what they like but I would recommend a 510 starter kit from Cignot.com. Order at least a small bottle of juice too because the prefilled carts in the starter kit won't last long. I also recommend the manual batteries over the automatics. The automatics sound better on the surface but trust me, they suck.

Good luck!

I just want to say that one does not HAVE to be immediately that dedicated to the PV. I did not quit smoking immediately, but I did reduce my daily cig count by half almost immediately, and I've been slowly reducing even more over the last six weeks. Last week, I only had two cigs a day. Today, I haven't smoked yet at all. And I've done this with minimal willpower.

This is not like the patch; it's not all or nothing. Had I been given the above advice in the beginning with no one correcting it, I would have never even tried a PV. Many quit immediately. For others, it takes a bit longer. And there's nothing wrong with either method.

Edited to reply to this:

Actually what I'm saying is that I want to keep smoking the analog (as you guys call it) cigarettes but smoke less of them and supplement them with the e-cigs. Would this be possible?

Yes, that is definitely possible with PVs.

I dont know about you but I will tell you how I did it. I smoked for 50 years (belive it or not) Im 65 now. A year ago I purchased one that was to long, heavy & has a tip like a cig holder. Didnt like ir & gave up on them. About 4 weeks ago I found the small ones that were light & looked like a cig. I had 4 packs of cigs. left. I didnt start out to quit but onn a Sunday I had 15 cigs left so I thought I will give it a try. I purchased 24mg which is a good hit. I havent had a cig. (anolog) since & I enjoy it much more. The cost (dont listen to the ads) where I live the anologs cost $38.00 a carton. I now pay $12.00 a carton with carts & juice. Just look around for good prices. Im statring to mix my own which will lower that cost to $8.00 - $10.00 a carton. All in all I enjoy vaping much more & I dont have to go outside to smoke any longer. When it is 0 deg out there in the winter you will be thankful.

Good luck & keep trying

Sign doesnt work.
Ive been smoke free for 20 days

Yes the E-cig can and most often does replace cigarettes. People that had no intention of stopping smoking, just wanted to vape (slang for the E-cig) where they couldn't smoke, have ended up putting the cigarettes down. No the E-cig isn't the same as a tobacco cigarette, it's even better and more enjoyable for many. There is a learning curve we all go through to get what we want from out PV (another term for E-cig) but it's even fun learning how to get the most from your PV. Smelling cigarette smoke doesn't even bother me, but it does make me glad I'm not using those smelly things anymore. If you give the PV a fair chance, you will find you enjoy vaping more than you did smoking. Being new to this I would suggest reading all you can on this forum to learn more about the E-cig. Best place to start is in the Library so you can get familiar with the abbreviations and slang we use. When you see something with a line under it, hold the curser on the word and it will tell you what it means. There's also a good bit of information on the different models and pros and cons to each of them, have fun!

I'm new too, but I have certainly read of people smoking analogs and pv's. I'm not, though.

In regard to satisfaction with ecigs, I have been very satisfied by my 3 days of expirience with them. I don't crave cigarrettes and I have been smoking on a of since I was 15, I'm 27 now. The last time I quit was for about 4 or 5 years. This time around, I really didn't like smoking, just the nic in the analogs. As soon as I found a way to replace my nicotine delivery system, I took it.

The most important thing to finding satisfaction is finding a quality ecig that you enjoy using. This may take some trial and error. Also, if you really enjoyed smoking, I've read and pretty much expected that you'll probably miss your analogs. Be sure to do your research the library has a great guide starting here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ecf-library/36180-wonderful-world-vaping-illustrated-guide-e-cigs-part-1-6-a.html

I read it and decided on the Vapor 4 Life Vapor King xl Model and I love it!

Good luck and keep asking questions, everyone has been very helpful and supportive of me so far!

Thanks. I'll check these places out in the future. I don't want to give up regular smoking as it's highly enjoyable but I also want to be in better cardio health. I'm glad to hear that you find electronic cigs to be just as good as regulars. With all the reports saying that vaping isn't as pleasureable as analog cigarettes I was getting a little disapointed. I just want to cut down, from like a pack a day to maybe 12 a day, not quit.

Basically when I'm by myself, (studying, reading etc) i want to be able to vape and still feel satisfied. When I'm out with friends I'll use analog.

Sadie, don't be upset when you decide that you PV is so much better than your cigarette that you decide to stop smoking. Personally I find a good E-cig to be more satisfying than a smelly cigarette.

No I'm not going to complain if that happens. If I find this as more pleasurable added to the fact that it's healthier than I definitely wont protest. I'm skeptical, but open to the possibility.

For the small investment fee, it's worth it to find out. I think that you will find that you will be reaching for your pack less and less often.

While we can give you our opinions and advice for days on end because we all love vaping so much it will boil down to your own opinion of the product as to whether or not it works for you.

I say give it a try and if you hate it, come back to the classifieds section here and put it up for sale. I'm betting you will not be selling it.

Probably the biggest thing that keeps me from just becoming a vaper is that it looks pretty silly when you're out smoking it in public especially with other smokers. I know it's shallow but it's a real issue for me.

There are plenty of products that look just like a cigarette although they seem to have a pretty short battery life.

Yes it will. That is why I started using my Vapor King, the same reason you want to use it. I found out very quickly that the flavors I could get for my VK tasted waaay better than my Benson & Hedges I smoked for almost 22 years. I have only smoked 1 pack of cigarettes the past 4 months. Knowing I can smoke if I want to takes away the torture of NEVER AGAIN! I just bought a pack of Benson & Hedges Lights 3 days ago because I hadn't smoked in 4 weeks (I had a craving) and the store I went to still has some non-FSC's left. I smoked 3 and they just don't taste nearly as good as they used to. It will probably take another 4 months to finish the pack I just bought. I will just keep them in the freezer so they stay fresher and if I want one I can have one. To be honest FSC's really hurt my head and lungs so I needed to think about minimizing my cigarette intake.

I say try it. :)

I wish there was a way to edit the post. Honestly, what I meant to say is I'm not trying to quit but rather cut down on the number of analog cigarettes I smoke and instead use e-cigs the rest of the time. Would the vap cigs be able to satisfy me while I'm still smoking less of the analog cigarettes?

We all have to be honest, smoking looks pretty silly also!!! I was a full on smoker for over 20 years and many people look down on smokers. Right or wrong that's just the way it is and always will be.

There are plenty of products that look just like a cigarette although they seem to have a pretty short battery life.

Sadie, I think the general jist of your inquiry is whether or not you will be satisfied by a PV when you use it to reduce your desire for analogs. That is a question that could be answered a little different by every user on this forum, so I will just tell you a little about my experiences.

I am 58 year old female who had smoked for over 35 years. A lot !

Being tied to a computer in my home office day in and day out, I was smoking a lot more than usual, prices were rising and my husband and I were going through 3-4 cartons per WEEK.

About 1.5 years ago, I heard about PV's, mostly through an internet ad about Gamucci, which as it turned out was NOT a good deal, but it got me reseaching and I found some mini's for sale on ebay. They were OK I thought, but carts were insufficient and tasta and battery liife was horrible. After even more reseach I found this forum.

At first, like so many, I thought I wanted something that looked and tasted like my analogs.

After many false starts, and much experimenting, I have found what seems to satisfy me. My 510's, KR808-1's, and a few mods I have collected seem to do the trick, but if I was limited to only one or two, it would be the 510 and the KR808....

Yes, there is what some think of as hassle, the batts, the juice, the refilling, all the little things we learn about on our journey.

But I can HONESTLY say that other than my husband and my daughter, vaping is the best decision I ever made in my life.

I cannot tolerate the taste of an analog now, however, I can be in the room or vehicle with my husband smoking and it does not offend me or make me crave. That was one of my big excuses for not quitting, not wanting to become one of THOSE exsmokers... the ones that make any smoker around them miserable. Yet, I am free of the chains that bound me for so many years.

Try a good reliable model, some good juice (maybe a sampler pace to see what you like, as you will probably be surprised). It's well worth the investment. And those who find it's not to their liking are usually able to dispense of their equipment easily through the classifieds here, so there is little is any monetary risk.

No one can guarantee that you will be satisfied, but I can guarantee that if you don't try, you will always wonder....

Good luck to you, and welcome to the forum, lot's of great info here and countless helpful people.
