Searching for an inexpensive battery charger, I came across a manufacturer's ali store, in which he sells his own chargers, AND apparently, rewraps of Sony VTC6 batteries. The datasheet seems identical. (CLICK)

Is this serious? Can such a cheap offer be trusted when it's seemingly the store of an actual hardware producer?

Edit: They also sell rewraps of LG HG2, it seems (CLICK) for even cheaper money.

I wouldn't buy any battery from that site. There are a lot of sellers that will provide false info and sell counterfit, lesser quality batteries with unknown specs under the guise of real quality batteries. The risk isn't worth the savings, especially since these batteries are not expensive in the first place.

What? 2,45€ for a single HG2 .. even in german online stores, those cost 7,95.

Well, I thought they could be credible since they're an actual hardware manufacturer, not just some random sales shop on the interweb. And those prices... locally, I pay 4 times that price, and online, I usually pay 3 times that price. So it would be a subtantial saving...

@mimöschen feel free to point me to a reputable german online shop with similar prices..

Cheaping out on batteries is one mistake that can change a person's life for the worst (not always, but it does happen). If your comfortable with putting your safety into the hands of an aliexpress seller, be my guest. I will only trust battery distributors that have a reputation of selling only authentic batteries.

I can see no legitimate reason to obtain LEGIT Sony cells and then rewrap them. If you MUST do it, buy one and pay to support Mooch and he might test it a little early.

But if they are oh-so-genuine but somehow need rewrapping that tells me it's one of two things a) FAKE and b) harvested from battery cells which trust me, you also do not want. Or they could be cheap seconds that failed QC from Sony and hence got the "I'm a trusted battery seller" rewrap.

WHY on earth would you think that if someone "disclosed" their rewrapping practice that would somehow make it legit?? If he had REAL Sony cells, surely there would be no NEED to rewrap them?

There is absolutely ZERO reason for a person to buy rewrapped batteries of any sort, not when there are legit, trusted and well known vendors who actually do stand behind their product.

Because he's not, I am 100% sure "rewrapping and selling cheap" just for the fun of it that sounds like an awful lot of effort to NOT turn a profit. I suppose they could have fallen off a truck somewhere and he doesn't want the serial numbers and whatnot coming to light.

But again, I point you to the question, why do business with such an unsavory person.

This isn't hard. Just use your logic for a moment. If you can present me with a legitimate reason that some dude had those LOVELY batteries the way they came from the warehouse, maybe I'd reconsider.

Wait, that' s a lie I'm never going to reconsider.

Some counterfit batteries are almost impossible to tell the difference between a legit battery when you are examining them side by side in person. Pics are even harder to spot a fake. Plus you never know if they will even send one that looks like the pictured item.

Sounds like you are really wanting to spend as little on the most important, and most dangerous, part of a vaporizer. Saving a few bucks should be reserved for attys, mods, and juice. It's just not worth it to risk it on the batteries.

If your waiting for someone to tell you its a good idea, wouldn't hold my breath as battery safety is taken pretty seriously around here.

If you are using 18650s the only reason to buy rewraps is if you live in a country that does not have decent vendors, or cannot have them shipped to you. Genuine original cells from the big four are readily available from reputable dealers at a lower price than BS rewraps of dubious quality.

I don't have too much to add that hasn't already been said. I do remember Andrew Wan, the CEO/founder of AW batteries, warning that all of the AW batteries being sold on AliExpress were counterfeits. AliExpress doesn't have the best reputation.

The AW production plant had a flood a few months ago which put a complete stop to all production. AW batteries have been out of stock worldwide for the last 3 - 4 months, but I see AliExpress is still selling them. Maybe that should tell you something "fishy" is going on at Ali Express. Why do they still have AW batteries for sale when every other supplier worldwide is out-of-stock? My guess is that they are counterfeits.
