I just started vaping about 6 weeks ago, had my last real cig about 4 1/2 weeks ago. Most people are really supportive and don't give a rip about the e-cigs- they are just glad I stopped smoking.

But a few people keep asking me when I'll be tapering off... or when I plan to stop vaping... or what my plan is to "quit altogether". They make *tsk*tsk* noises and pretend to know that "vaping isn't good for me and I should really stop". When I try to explain to them that all the ingredients in the juice are present in other- approved- applications, and that there are no known carcinogens in any appreciable quantity in e-cigs, they shake their heads and tell me that they're not so sure and that they "heard" it's not good for you.

Aside from telling these people to mind their own freaking business... how do you handle the ones who expect that your whole goal in vaping is to STOP vaping?? Frankly, I have no intention of stopping at this point. I consider it nearly guilt-free enjoyment, so why should I stop?

And what do you say to people who seem to be so sure that they just "know" that vaping isn't good for you and you should stop it as soon as possible??

Maybe these are just the kind of people who would judge another's activities and behaviors no matter what. Or maybe these are the kind of people who just always think they know what's best for everyone else.

But it sure is annoying

As with working on a help desk. Set expectations from the start!
Other: "is that one of those ecig things?"
Me: "yes, this is my PV, which stands for Personal Vaporizor. It's my replacement for tobacco."
Other: "So you've stopped smoking completely with that?"
Me: "And I feel so much better now :)"
Other: "Wow! Can you get that without nicotine?"
Me: "Yes, 0 nic juice is very easy to get, or even make yourself"

There are a lot of ill informed people out there giving bad advice or trying to convert you to their distorted view, if you enjoy vaping and you don't feel that you are doing yourself or anyone else any harm then carry on vaping. :)

All my friends are very supportive and I have no intention of giving up vaping as I enjoy it.

When they ask if you are going to stop vaping tell them:

There is a wide array of reactions I might have and responses I might give.
I guess what I'm saying is that my response would be tailored to the person and the situation.

The only person that ever did this to me was my father.
I simply explained to him the dangers as I understood them, and then told him I had no intention of quitting.

He never said another word.

Do any of the above mentioned people drink alcohol? How quick are they going to quit that ? From all current appearances this is not as harmful to your body as alcohol. Do they have any other habits that are bad for them if they don't drink? Even a Coca-Cola addict works for an example.

Do they have a PHD? Have they done extensive research into vaping and it's effects on the body? If the answer is no, then they don't know squat. Educate folks that will listen. Just ignore those that won't. It'll help your blood pressure. And when somebody can find someone like in the second question about effects above let me know.

i tell people that i am planning on weaning off the nicotine.
Most of us have started at 24 mgish, and are probably down to 18 or lower, so that happens naturally...
i vape 12mg and have 6mg when i want to chain vape....
plus i enjoy vaping, it doesn't hurt anyone but my wallet, so they can cram it!
i switched from a highly offensive and deadly habit to something better so win!!

I've been vaping for two years now, and I'm frequently asked when or if I plan to "give up" this habit, as well. I simply tell them I can't think of a good reason to do so, and until some studies are produced to provide incentive or Big Tobacco manages to drive it into the ground I have no intention of quitting. People seem to just have dim views about any type of habit, regardless of whether or not it could be considered a vice. I even get queries of concern when I restrict my diet to gluten-free foods. I've been asked, "But...couldn't that be unhealthy?" ............???? :-| They are....just so uninformed and easily threatened by anything that doesn't seem relevant to their own lives.
