hey everyone.
for the past year or so i haven't really been keeping up with all the latest atomizing units. i've been relying on carto tanks for the past 2 years or so. i've only upgraded to the u-dct style tanks from smoktech rather than the earlier style tanks where you'd have two removable caps.
i noticed a few months ago my regular hardware retailer had been sold out of certain resistances of the propriety cartos for smoktech tanks. usually they are pretty good with stocking in a timely fashion so i sent them an email asking why it was taking them so long to stock up. i got a reply saying that they are not bought very frequently so they don't stock them anymore.
...? even the year previous they had a limit on how many 5-packs you could buy. i am noticing other retailers turning their backs on cartos in general.
after rba's and clearomizers i had some people tell me cartos were losing favor, but i find that hard to believe. there are so many vapers out there i highly doubt ALL OF YOU GUYS are using clearomizers or rba's.

starting to get a little twitchy thinking this time next year i might have to have an atomizer that i hate. the issue with clearomizers for me as a vaper who commutes by bus and foot during winters where temperatures are often -20C- -30C (-4F- -22) or colder is that they do not vape as well as carto tanks by far.

who else still uses carto tanks?

Yes, I still use a carto tank and so do many others here including Baditude.

People who try clearomizers thinking they are a tank and passing over the carto tank in the process are missing out.

Clearos are only tanklike in that they have a juice reservoir, they are more properly called clearo-tanks as this refers to their method of juice delivery while carto tanks are the original tanks, invented right here on these very forums.

In terms of flavor Ive found carto tanks to be superior to everything but an RBA and a dripper........while being WAY more convenient than either.

IBtanked carto tanks has a pretty good following around here. That's what I use. I agree that they aren't sold as much, but I like them better than the clearos I used before and I'm not in any hurry to stop using them, They sell Smok punched and flanged cartos at a good price as well.
IBTanked

IBTanks are good for the price and if your gentle with them. I am not however and thats why I prefer Phiniac tanks. They go through a special annealing process and use a thicker glass than IBTanks, hence the reason for the higher price.

Ive bought and broken 3 IBTanks in the past 2 years versus one Phiniac that finally gave up the ghost after being repeatedly dropped onto a hard surface.

The other two phins I have are still as good as the day I bought them.....almost 2 years ago.

I love my cartotanks, mostly the IBTanked and Phiniacs. I have other's but they don't even rate mentioning. The flavor from a cartotank is far superior to a clearomizer although the Nautilus with a BVC is quite good. I have Kayfun's as well. My daily rotation includes cartotanks, Nautilus w/BVC coils, and each type of Kayfun available and I love them all!

I used cartotanks (primarily IBTanked) for the better part of two years; I still keep a couple of them set up at the ready. There's still nothing, I mean nothing, better than a freshly set up cartotank.

I have to admit that I've moved up the vaping ladder to a Kayfun Lite rebuildable tank atomizer and rebuildable drip atomizers. I'm all about convenience. With a cartotank I needed to replace the carto every 10 - 20 days. Priming a carto correctly can take some time and patience if you do it correctly.

With the Kayfun, I re-wick every 1 - 2 weeks, and dry burn the coil between wick changes. My coils have lasted up to 10 weeks. Changing the wick in a Kayfun takes less time than changing a carto in a cartotank. Flavor? A Kayfun is like a cartotank on steroids.

I change the wick in my RDA every 3 - 4 days (so easy it only take 2 minutes) and again dry burn the coil. Again, the coils last several weeks. I'm not spending $2 - 4 every 10 - 20 days on replacement cartomizers, which may or may not be DOA. Flavor and vapor is better than a carto or clearo.

Having said that, if you are using a clearomizer and looking for the next level up the chain yet don't wish to get into rebuildable atomizers, a cartotank will fill that need very nicely.

Although I've recently ventured into rebuildables (specifically the KFL+) and find the flavor and vapor superior to carto tanks, I still think cartotanks provide the most reliable and least fiddly vape. I still have a few IBTankeds ready for the times I'm too lazy to rewick my Kayfun or for traveling. I never get leaking, flooding or dry hits from my cartos. I've been tempted to try the new Aspire BVC coils in a Nautilus but already I'm reading about people having problems with those as well. Meh. I think I'll stick with Kayfuns and cartotanks.

I did a poll a while back on what hardware people used.

Results were:

1. Rebuildables - 145
2. Clearos - 119
3. Cartos - 31
4. Dripping attys - 15

Keep in mind this is an ECF poll and there are a lot more hobyist vapers here than in the general vaping population. I imagine the same poll done on the general vaping public would have cartos come in way lower. It's too bad because they are so good when they're set up right and specially if you're using a clean juice. Most of the juices I use lately would probably clog one up in 10-15 ml and that would get expensive.

I tried a smok carto tank and I have a Youde tank that I can't remember the name of. In terms of flavor, they were always better than, say, a standard Protank/iClear type setup. I'm not so sure that holds true to the next gen clearos such as the Aerotank Mega, but it's been months since I last used a carto.

But there was nothing about them that I find more convenient then a well built RTA such as a Kayfun. The learning curve is greater, of course, but once you have a well built coil, it can literally last for months. Once, maybe twice a weak, a quick dry burn and re-wick and you're good to go. I have that process down to about 5 minutes including disassembly, 10 minutes if I'm feeling froggy and want a new coil.

Clearo's aren't that easy.
