Are there any fumes coming off batteries to be concerned about?

I've noticed a lot of mods have air vents to release the heat build up. They often seem to be placed at the top - near the atomizers air-flow holes.
Do batteries give off any fumes that'd be harmful to inhale?

If you don't abuse your batteries then they won't vent. If the battery does vent then it will release some toxic materials. The vents in the mod are to prevent pressure build up in the event that your battery vents it will not explode.

It's just the vents are very close to the airholes on the atomizers - so if it did vent you'd get a lungful of it..

The batteries will not give off fumes unless they are venting. At that point in time, the fumes should be the least of your concerns since the batteries are getting ready to get radical! Get it away from your body immediately should you notice fumes/venting.

Pushing the batteries past their limits. You need to make sure that you don't pull more amps than your batteries are rated for.

- at 2:08 minutes into the video the flashlight goes out.
- at 4:42 minutes into the video the rubber switch boot fails, venting some smoke from the light..
- at 5:56 minutes into the video the 18650 cell goes into full thermal runaway & vents with explosive force blowing out the switch, lens, LED board, and driver.

Heating the stuff with a propane torch was required for this to happen. “Charging” the cell via direct hookup to 120VAC mains proved unsuccessful (he should have used a bridge rectifier LoL! ).
So no, it's not that easy to turn your mods into pipebombs.
