So I'm thinking of picking up a BB soon. I would like to have the option of using it at 6V(without hanging around a wall-plug) but really don't want to use unprotected batts. After searching for about an hour I found this site. They don't list any detailed specs but two things make me think it's protected. There is the tell-tale hump by the positive end, and you can just make out the words "The voltage of full charge and cut-off discharge is 3.6V and 2.0V". So protected or not? Also it says the length is 27mm, which I think would barley fit in the BB.

^^^If it's a cheap battery box it probably outputs 6V (1.5V x4). If it's a "classier" one it might have a 5V regulator built in.

And if I am using a 2.2ohm 510 atty is it just going to turn into a puddle of melted plastic? or do I have a viable, emergency backup power supply?

oh yea, cheap. about $4... can't get much cheaper than that :) It does come with a belt clip attached though.
