Ay Up Everyone,

Following on from tonight's VTTV programme about the setting up of a Consumers Association, I thought it important that the ecig users of the UK realise the importance of naming their chosen recreational nicotine habit.

According to the WHO, nicotine is the problem as it is a drug. Whether the nicotine is taken in by smoking, vaping, aubergines or NRT; If we use nicotine, we are 'ill'.

To avoid all confusion, we need to hang onto the fact that we are recreational nicotine users and as far as the 'powers that be' are concerned, the only recognised recreational nicotine users are SMOKERS.

If we have quit smoking, by switching to vaping, in their eyes we have used ecigs as a NRT. I know it is daft, BUT that is politics for you.

So to 'play the game', we ARE smokers who have just changed our brand to a possibly healthier one :)

I hope that clears things up ;)

It is just a word game that we need to play. The WHO are trying to reduce nicotine addiction. Smoking tobacco has been around for a long time, has dangerous side effects BUT has companies with a lot of money and clout supplying the products.

The WHO can tackle smoking by pointing to the 'death causing attributes' of that pastime without tackling the big companies, so they (big tobacco) are left alone.

Medicinalisation is a way of controlling nicotine addiction and yet again there is a lot of money invested in that area, so that is the way they can tackle the said addiction.

Unfortunately, ecigs have not got the money behind them, they pose a threat to a 'nicotine addict' free world they desire and they fall into a loop hole of classification :(

If we say we have 'stopped smoking', they can say that they are NRT (replacing tobacco smoking) and then they can classify ecigs as medical devices and eliquids as medicines.

We need to say instead that we are smokers who vape. I think that phrase is quite safe at the moment :)

PS - sorry for the double post!

Yes. It's up to the individual how they want to describe it - some feel one way, some the other. No one knows the relative percentages who feel one way or the other, but because of the legal situation it's best to describe ourselves 'in print' as e-smokers.

One day, perhaps all this will be cleared away. We can live in hope...
