I wonder what her comments would be if you had been using a nicotine inhaler? Would she still have considered that to be smoking?

To me vaping is similar, its a nicotine substitute but just with vapor as the carrier, albeit a million times better!!

Vape on!!;)

I think in her mind and probably in the minds of many other ex-smokers and non-smokers alike, that unless we totally give up anything that is even vaguely like smoking a real cigarette, then we are still smoking whether we are using nicotine or not. Those are the ones who are of the opinion that you must also get rid of the physical hand to mouth side of the habit as well. Of course I for one have a problem with that part of it, if I don't satisfy that physical aspect of smoking then I start substituting with food and start gaining massive amounts of weight. I'm trying to lose weight, not gain it. :glare:

You might be surprised. Many people who have been vaping for a while don't like the smell or taste of analogs any longer.

I've been vaping for 8 months and left my ecigs at home.
Tried a real cig and I felt sick after, couldn't even finish it.

All I know is I'm not getting the over 500 CHEMICALS from an Analog as well as Carbon Monoxide, so it's a healthy alternative that's for sure.

I think we all agree that you should do what makes U happy and not worry about what others say... (as long as U R not infringing upon other's rights of course). This has been said a lot here in this thread as well as others, seeming to try and end the discussion or take the validity out of it.... BUT we must continue to address the issue of others viewing us as smokers because these are the people who will tromp all over our rights...... to do what makes us happy!

So don't just adopt this attitude, I'm just going to do what's right for me and ignore the oppostion.... because the opposition is not going to ignore... they are going to try and ban!!! Or make us vape in the "smoking area only".

Just say " You are a dear friend and I love you, but I am a vaper NOT a smoker. As an ex-smoker I'm sure you're painfully aware of how trying the first leg of this journey can be which is why I need your support now more than ever. I am not saying that the way I am going about it is any better than any other method, just that it is the one that is working for me. I see and appreciate your accomplishment of becoming a non-smoker, obviously as I am attempting to follow your lead. You can help me accomplish my goals set for me, by me, by NOT referring to me as still a smoker. I am pretty DAMN proud of the fact that I have not put over 4000 carcinogens to my lips in XXX days! This, much as many other addictive behavior breaking tools, is called vaping. I may or may not stop doing this but please, credit where credit is due, I AM NOT smoking! I ask only that in the future, you refer to me as a vaper and my "habit" as vaping. I realize that this is not "true" non smoking to you but my mind, my body and my heart beg to differ. I ask only for your support. If the conditions I have outlined are not acceptable to you please let me know now. I will be sad, but I will understand and hopefully we will be able to communicate again sometime in the future. Take care, god bless and you are always in my heart!"

Not sure why everyone wants to debate the smoking/ vaping aspect. It's really no ones business, but your own and you don't have to prove anything. If you feel good about yourself, then screw what anyone else thinks. Do these people control you or your life? Do you control your own life? Then good for you, take control , do what's best for you, forget everyone else! Why should you live your life for anyone, but yourself and family that it effects? I don't get all the controversy, just do your own thing, who cares?

Controversy: FDA Ban that's why we need to keep talking about it. Yes who cares until they ban the sale of them... or the use of them... or anything else they're talking about banning.

I agree with Jude - who cares what anyone else thinks! Most non/ex-smokers have no issues whatsoever with you using the patch/gum/inhalers, etc... Hell, you could be dependent on them for the rest of your life and they wouldn't care less about your nicotine addiction. They'd also probably be happier if you replaced the hand to mouth with food instead of a PV, that is until you gain too much and then they'll be all over you for being 'obese'. IMO, the main issue with them is that vaping mimics that 'act of smoking' and they can't have that. The children will get so confused by it all. ;-)

That.

Until the FDA gets off our ..., we need to educate people.
This is the reality of the situation we currently face.

@tarazarr -
I noticed in one your posts that you've been upping your nicotine to get a bigger throat hit. Not sure if you are aware or have already tried them, but Viking Vapor has an option on most all their juices, regardless of nic level, to adjust the throat hit (standard, full flavor, filterless). I'm pretty new to this so there may very well be others, these guys were just the first of the few I checked out that offered it as an option.

Good point, and I imagine in the future more will try to offer such options.
It is often said that adding a little vodka (or everclear) can increase throat hit.

4. When they ask "so when are you going to quit PVs?"
Answer : I'm not.
Maybe the same time you quit (Drinking coffee, Soda, eating at mcdonalds..etc...)
EVERYONE has a habbit of some sort.

Well said! That's what I tell them. I told my wife (Who has never smoked) that I enjoy smoking (which is why I could never fully quit, I enjoy it too much), and this handles my nicotine delivery without all the nasty stuff that comes with an analog. When she asked when I was going to quit vaping, I said "Never. But if you want, I can go back to throwing money (and my health) away with analogs." That pretty much made her see the light.

The actual smoking habit (hand to mouth) is not harmful to the smoker OR harmful to others. Why is this a problem for her? It's no different that drinking coffee.

You know I honestly think it's because she is still fighting her own cigarette addiction even though it's been 9 years since she quit. And the fact that she had to do it with the patch and gum since PV's weren't around at that time just might have her a bit jealous and envious of the ease that I am having as I quit smoking and not having the cravings that she had to suffer through.

Really?? Did you get it in writing??
What insurance company is that, I need to call them..

My life insurance company (liberty mutual) will consider me a non smoker after 1 year of not smoking cigarettes. A PV (essentially a nicotine inhaler) does not count as tobacco, as it's the carcinogens in smoke the insurance companies worry about.

Well I've managed to go from 18mg/ml to 5mg/ml of nicotine in the 4 weeks that I've been using my PV. I'm probably going to hold at the 5mg/ml now for a few weeks before I try to bump it down more to allow my system time to adjust to the much lower nicotine levels I'm now using. And if I do find that I'm starting to crave a cigarette again I'll mix myself up some 8mg/ml juice to use.
My ultimate goal is to reach zero nicotine unless research that they are doing now shows conclusively that low levels of nicotine are beneficial for preventing certain ailments such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and several others that they are currently studying.

Just might have to check them out. The majority that I know of test you for nicotine (cotinine levels) and rate you the same as a smoker even if you're just using the patch or gum. Although, there are usually varying levels within the 'smoker' classification. Preferred, Standard, High Risk depending on your overall health.
