Like a lot of vapers on here I used to be a smoker. I'd go out and buy some baccy, roll my smokes and smoke them. I knew how much I smoked by knowing how many packets of baccy I bought and by how much money disappeared out of my wallet. Not surprisingly I didn't keep a spreadsheet on how many cigarettes I smoked. I just enjoyed smoking and got on with it.
Now, I'm a vaper. I have my twist and and my vivi, I know how much I have vaped by the amount of 10ml bottles of juice I have used and the amount of money from my wallet. What i don't need is a puff counter or the need to plug my equipment into my computer and download/upload info. I simply vape my juice and get on with my life.
Now, I know there will always hobbyists out there who will buy these devices like the eVic etc (and yes if you buy one you are a hobbyist) but I really hope the companies out there that build the vaping devices don't think we all want this pointless bs, cos we don't, some of us want to keep it simple and just vape instead of smoke.
Btw, i work in I.T., I'm not in a mood over this because I can't work the devices or anything like that. I just wish they'd bring out a better cartomiser or a cheaper yet still functional tank atomiser.
I realise that if this thread gets any replies I will probably get slated by all the people that have bought devices like these, but c'mon people, do we really need this kind of tech? Is this the direction we want the market and community to go in?
I think not.

I can see some usefulness in puff counters. With a cigarette, you had a beginning and a definite end to smoking one. When a person went on a break at work, they could pretty much tell how much time had passed judging on their cig. So, perhaps a vaper would find it useful to know they've puffed the equivalent of a cig.

Or people who are using them to set limits on themselves. Those who may be trying to not only quit smoking cigs, but to quit or limit their vaping.

Others might use it to gauge whether it's time to top off a carto, knowing how many puffs they've taken.

I kind of like the idea of a puff counter, myself. But, I also agree, lets make a fool proof tank or carto or a longer cycle smaller battery, too.

I honestly don't see this as an issue. They'll continue to make all kinds of devices to suit individual needs ... as they always have. 10 years from now ... you'll STILL be able to purchase 510 and 808 kits. No different than anything else really. From standard vehicles to plain old cell phones ... companies understand not everyone wants or needs the high tech gear.

And just because a feature is useless to you doesn't mean it's useless to someone else. Just use whatever device suits your needs and don't worry about what works for others.

A puff counter does not do anything for me, but it is not up to me. The market place will determine what is offered and what is not. If the folks want one it will continue to be offered and if they don't then it will fade away in favor of other things that most of the folks want. Everything has a cost and it is a competitive market. Hopefully a company beta tests these things and does not just offer them because they think it is a good idea. There are plenty of products and companies on the ash heap of history because they came out with a better mouse trap that no one wanted or was willing to pay for.

I understand that you aren't interested in those things but there are plenty of people who are and find the current cartos/clearos good enough.

Cheaper tanks, I'm using the VVN and have been using the same 1 for over a month and likely will get at least another, how cheap do you exactly want it? Get yourself an inexpensive RBA, cheap to over long term.

Yes this is exactly the direction you want it to go, you need something to drive it otherwise it just stagnates.

And for some who are extremely addicted, the collecting helps keep them off cigarettes, some people don't care the cost or that it isn't exactly perfect as long as they stay off cigarettes.

A lot of people (myself included) went up to bigger battery mods because they are cheaper in the long run. Once that twists battery life is done you'll have to shell out another $20 bucks and I only have to shell out $10 and the battery life of 18650's is much longer than that of an ego bat. No only do you have to pay twice as much you have to do it more often.

Going to have to poke you a bit here: The funniest thing is that you used vaping to get off tobacco, since it's good enough to do that you don't need anything more, if you do aren't you becoming a connoisseur of vapor?

A bigger poke: since you're in IT check the math on the batteries and battery life

And even bigger poke if requested, but I've given 2 already :).

There will always be simplistic constant voltage mods for people like you. No need to worry about us "hobbyists" ruining your type of mods because they are best for beginners, so there will ALWAYS be simple, constant voltage, plug n play batteries for youu.

As for the carto/atty thing you have me confused...Boge/IKV/Joye atties/cartos are top of the line and don't run more than 2 bucks for a carto or 6 for an atty. Confused..........

Sorry, I can't read your pokes and look at your avatar without LOLing. I've seen your avatar and not LOLed, I read your pokes and did not LOL, until I looked at your avatar with the poke fresh in mind.
Something about the combo lol. (I know you didn't mean it this way, but "You suck! You're in IT and blah blah blah" lol)

Well the comments were meant in a ribbing/ironic way.

I didn't even think about the avatar combo, but you're right, that does make it funnier :).

I agree that people like choice, that vendors won't stock items that don't sell. I take the point about the batteries, I don't take the point that just because you want a simple constant voltage battery that you are a beginner. I learn VERY fast and even though I have only been vaping 2 months, don't consider myself a beginner.
There are many vaping boards on the web, I peruse quite a few and there always seems to be someone moaning about the quality of this cartomiser or that clearomiser or whatever.I use a Vivi, not particularly happy with it, might move to a tank. I took the poke about the ego battery, might move to a simple cheap mod that takes 18650 batteries (when I find one), I understand that some people will get hardcore into buying different bits of kit in an effort to keep their minds off of cigarettes.
But my point was essentially, that I was concerned that the manufacturers would concentrate overly on producing pv's full of tech we don't need whilst neglecting the production of standardised consistently effective and working basic kit that we do need.
People will answer a thread saying they have this tank or this vivi or that rba and they have worked awesomely for x amount of weeks/months, but you only have to look around the boards to see plenty of threads from people complaining that their boge/kanger/smoktech etc doesnt work, or they had 3 good ones out of 5 etc.
Anyway, I have tried to put my point across the best way I can.

When I buy a car, I check for the features that I want, and not all the gadgetry that they try to convince me I need. I don't try to convince them that they shouldn't build cars with these other features that I don't want.
(The first mass produced autos were only available in black, but then some ...... wanted a white one! Look what that lead to!)

I think it's Wonderful that there is such a variety of Vaping options available at so many different price levels. I feel that, if a person does the research, there is a device that fits each individual's needs and will help them switch from smoking.

I'm Happy with what I have and what I paid for it and I'm not concerned that someone else made an informed decision to buy something different.

Its actually the opposite. MOST companies are geared toward the entry level ... easy to use devices.

They'll never ignore that market, its not a good business strategy to increase your customer base. Which is ultimately what they want.

The reason you even hear about higher end devices on here like you do is because there are a lot of hobbyist and power users on the forums. It would be like going to a sports car forum and seeing a lot of posts regarding Ferrari and Porche.

That doesn't mean companies plan or have stopped producing economy class cars.

Understood, the cartos and clearos aren't perfect, I have issues with them as well. But they have progressed and are much better than what they used to use in the past.

For cartos not sure how much they can change those, but the clearos have been changing and will continue to change because the better they get the more they sell.

You might want to try a cheap RBA, they seem to be better on average than clearos/cartos; don't know for sure.

Glad you took the poke on batts, if you're in it for the long haul it's another money saver. If you do make sure you get a charger that charges fast, one of mine takes about 7-8 hours to charge a 3Kmah bat, new one takes about 3 hours (love it).

Not sure if you know this, I didn't at first; you can get purely mechanical mod with no wires like the telescope, a mechanical with wires like the bolt which are fairly cheap. I'm always carrying either the telescope or bolt as a backup to my VV's. Sometimes I just use them. I also have a Vamo which is $40 VV and can take either 18650 or 18350, though the connection is a little squirrelly since I over tightened a time too many.

I think most manufacturers of PVs aren't manufacturers of clearos/cartos.

Good luck with finding your more than adequate set up; took me time, money, more time and more money to find mine :).

But I've got to tell you, I'm one of those who love the looks of those mods and really want them just to have them; I have the same problem with fountain pens :). Actually my problem with fountain pens is worse, the amount of money spent on vaping is negligible compared to that.

Yeah I can agree with the people that like complicated stuff, and the people that do not. Some days I just want to fill up a clearomizer tank like my smoktech redux and go. I love that thing, and it only works on an eGo battery anyway, which makes it even more uncomplicated. I love an eGo battery on the days when I dont want to look down at this expensive hunk of technology or a big mod.

I'm really upset that I STEPPED ON my only eGo... and I had been looking at eGo spinners and eGo twists for a long time before that. I wanted to have a normal eGo and an eGo spinner/twist so that I could keep my provari at home and take the spinner/twist out with me. Well, I broke my normal eGo. -________- I couldn't see buying a new eGo AND an eGo spinner/twist, so I just bought a spinner. lol.

So, now I can't look down at something and think: "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. SIMPLICITY. "An EGO and a CARTO" or, "An EGO and a CLEARO" nope! now I'm forced to look down and say "Well, a VV eGo and a clearo/carto" so, whatever. lol. I can't help that. But, looking down at an eGo looking device is still what I was aiming for. I may someday buy a 650mah eGo because I DO like normal eGos. I DO like the simplicity of having a little cartomizer tank on a little eGo. My last eGo was 900mah and I wanted one just a teeny bit smaller. I ordered a 400mah spinner because I know the extra VV chip makes them a little bigger than the normal eGos. So, I hope the 400mah spinner will be around the size of the 650mah normal eGo haha. But I'd like a normal 650mah eGo. I had a 400mah eGo butttt I used my computer to charge it one day and it broke -____- It was way too small for my tastes. If your going to get something wider than a cigarette, then it doesn't need to be that small. lol. Just my opinion on the matter. 650mah is perfect size when it comes to eGos.

Is this the direction we want the market and community to go in?

I don't know about "we," but as far as I'm concerned, yes.

Sure, things like puff counters and other tech aren't for everyone. I know I don't need them. Do I think manufacturers should stop making them just because I don't want those features? Hell no.

Personally -- and no offense intended here -- I think it would be awfully arrogant of me to suggest that what I want, personally, is "the direction want the market and community to go in." I people want this kind of stuff, they'll buy it, and that's a good thing for the industry. More vapers, whether they're using something with a microchip or not, means more demand, which in turn means lower costs, more choice, and a whole lot of benefits for all of us.

It's not like every manufacturer out there will go the high-tech route. It's already obvious, even with the industry as young and unsettled as it is, that companies will, and do, spring up to cover the needs of all of us. If you want something gadgety, there are choices. If you want something plain-jane, there's that, too. Hell, if you want to build completely to your own tastes, there are plenty of vendors who'll sell you the parts to do just that.

There's no need to be afraid of companies trying to take vaping and the equipment we use to do it in new directions, even if they aren't directions you'd choose for yourself. More choices and more vapers are a good thing for all of us, and should be strongly encouraged.

Personally I don't have any use for a puff counter. To me, it's more like "hey, look at this feature we added!", and I'm sure people will be swayed to buy stuff just because of that. I do think that in the case of the eVic though, they have their target markets a little mixed up. I think a puff counter is more beginner gadgetry in a package that a newcomer would never buy.

What I do like about it though, is the fact that new features are coming to the mass market. It seems like PV evolution has slowed down over the past few months, and now we're seeing some more firsts. Every implementation of a feature will have it's flops, a lot of people will hate it or not care about it, and then someone will turn around and re-engineer it in some brilliant way. And then we get the next evolution of devices.

There will always be a market for the high and low-tech devices though. I personally prefer the lower end, but as the high-tech stuff matures I'm definitely going to be keeping an eye on it. This may just be the geek in me, but I can see tons of potential for a device with upgradeable firmware and an OLED screen in a WELL implemented package. Having said that, I'm going to keep shopping for a REO..

EDIT: Thinking about it too, there's not a whole lot of stuff to do with the low tech vs the high tech stuff. With current battery technology, the low-tech stuff can only do so much and get so small. Now you have low-tech devices like the eRoll coming out with 90mah batteries in it. The high tech stuff the sky is pretty much the limit at this point.

You see I think why would you want some cheap mediocre preforming poorly built crap. So its really just a preference I enjoy my toys, and why do you feel that should end? Why dose it bother you? I bet you are in the same boat as the rest of us and are living on edge hoping the FDA doesn't shut us down. Yet you would do the same to others who like things different from you.

Why do you feel the world should do as MP2012 dose? What else should we do away with? Should we also drive cheap cars no radios, break all the smart phones way unnecessary. Everyone needs to buy their clothes from Dicky. whats with these new flanged TVs a black and white 13" is all that needed!
Enjoy your ecig dude Im glad you are happy with your set up. But dont look down your nose and condemn me because I like something different!
