Okay, I've been lurking a few days now. I have the typical story around here as of late: saw Blu, ordered Blu, waited waited waited for Blu, screw Blu, cancelled.

Now I am trying to decide what to get for my first ecig. I have it narrowed down to (of course) the 510, the 901, and the VX2 J118. First I thought 510, but then I heard about better bat life and flavor with the 901. Then it was all about how the VX2, the "new 901", has a better draw and all-around better design. Cool! But then I am back to the 510 for better throat hit and vapor quantity.

Sigh, what's a smoker to do? I only smoke about 8-10 cigarettes a day, but would like to go to eCigs for the obvious health reasons (although, being a computer tech, there's a love for tech as well). I smoke Marlb. reds usually, but sometimes swisher cigars, so I like a big throat hit. I work at a computer most of the time and will be getting a usb passthrough, so bat life isn't a dealbreaker, but I would like to not switch bats all the time if I'm out for a few hours. Clouds of vapor would be cool and all, but secondary to the throat hit.

I'm about to go crazy! There's so much, but unfortunately I cannot afford to buy a bunch and try them out, my wife would kill me (although she is supporting the single purchase so I'll put down the analogs). I have read tons of reviews obviously, but what is your opinion? What do you think would be my best choice?

I appreciate all your help, and I look forward to sharing my experiences so I can give back to this community that's taught me so much in such little time!

TIA,
Tryp

Just from what you said - I have an auto and a 510 manual - you want a 510. The battery life is really not that big a deal, esp. if you get a PCC which is included in one of Innovapor's packages for a pretty good price - that and 2 extra attys and some juice on top. Although you'll want other juice, I'm guessing. The PCC lets you change batteries about 5 times without recharging the internal batt. Which will take you through a day of work or partying. With the others you get a few more hours but you'll still have to recharge. 'At a computer more of the time' the passthru is ideal and if you don't mind walking around with a passthru cable coming out of your pocket - get a keningston external battery ($38 shipped thru amazon) a little larger than a credit card and you can throw away your battery chargers (but don't ;-).

You'll have the throat hit and vapor you want - no juice vapors like ECOpure - none I've tried, and I've had a few now. But I sometimes mix it for more taste.

I like the 901. Been using it since feb. To acheive better throat hit and vapor I needed more power. I have a PT hooked up to a Kensington battery pack, a pen clip attached to the att for hanging on shirt and a cell phone belt clip to carry the Kensington. With an extra att, this can be done for around $70. Then to try other models, you only need an att and passthrough. This is working really good for me if you don't mind the hanging wire under your shirt. Does look real techish.

Using both the 901 and 510 I agree with your assessments. The 901 has much better flavor, but not as much vapor/throat hit. I find that my magnum mod/usb passthrough helps the 901 in the throat hit/vapor department though. I use the 510 while out and about, and have the 901 w/ USB or magnum at home. I even made the USB passthrough, it's super easy and theres a tutorial in the modders forum for it. I don't understand why anyone would buy a USB passthrough as they are way easy to make (unless you deathly afraid of soldering something).

I suppose it's up to you what you want out of the device. You can't really go wrong with either model, but the 901 parts are pretty easy to find if you want to mod something. 510 seems to be more difficult as it's a newer model and no one wants to take apart working batteries and what-not for parts. Ten to one you'll end up ordering the other model a month or two down the road anyways. Trying the different models ends up being an addiction in itself for some

Mar burro reds and throat hit is a 510 manual batt........(no question). That what will kick the habit. Batteries die quicker but if you have 3 batts you know how long it takes to plug one in 2 maybe 3 seconds. Start with that and take the money you save from smoking and buy the 901 on week # 2 and smoke both at the same time.

good luck

I stopped cigarettes about 5 weeks ago in favor of the DSE901 - of course I've ordered 3 starter sets - and am down to just 2 good batteries and 2 atomizers. I think it was a good ecig to get started on. I've since purchased the M401 from litecigusa.com and am VERY happy with it.

I was a Marlboro Light smoker for a little over 30 years - I don't miss them a bit. I ordered the pass through kit - should see it early next week; I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Whatever you choose - good luck (but you probably won't really need it).

Have to chime in on the "get the 510" advice here. I started with a 901 and while I still like it, it was very frustrating to start with. Auto batteries like to go off in your pocket all day while you're walking around -- nothing worse than craving a smoke, grabbing your e-cig, and discovering that what you thought was a fully charged battery is now dead. Also, I always seem to get liquid in my mouth with the 901. Granted, I mainly drip with it now for flavor, but it's still annoying. Never have that problem with the 510.

If you want a good "heavy" smoke, there's really no other choice. The throat hit can't be matched unless you get a mod (or so I hear). The flavor isn't *bad* on the 510 either, it's just not as pronounced as you would get with some other models.

Also...the PCC is really cool looking if you're into techie things. :D It's shiny metal with pretty leds all over it, about the size of a pack of smokes. Your geek friends will be jealous.

My first purchase was a 901. Then I purchased a 701 cigar, then a penstyle 801. Now I am back to a 901. The cigar is great for home, long battery, lots of vapor. Less topping off.
The 901 is good vapor, about 3 hours of bat life, and good flavor. It's nice looking. No problems.
The 801 was really good vapor, but bigger, bat lasted about 4 hours. But it leaked. And I got tired of walking around with a tissue wrapped PV.
So now I am back to the 901 which caused me the least amount of problems. And, compare the prices on replacement atomizers and bats on the 901 and 510.
