So I had my gums scraped today. The scraping wasn't bad, but the 15 injections in the mouth I got first were horrific!

I still can't believe they didn't send you home with vicoden. I just had my back molars scraped last year and they sent me home with 4 vicodens. My sister's dentist gives her xanax before her appointments. I don't want to see people getting addicted to anything, but seriously, a couple painkillers when you actually have pain should not be a big deal. :2c:

Agree 100% ... a couple pills wouldn't hurt anything.
Heck, my folks fixed a stray dog that has been hanging at their house for months now, and he got some pretty good drugs.

i so agree with you it;s really sad that any doctor or dentist now a days is so paranoid of getting in trouble for prescribing pain meds :(

I don't think living in the .... Capitol of the world helps my case any either.

Lots of places are going with the "everyone that wants painkillers is a drug seeker" rule.

Some will still give painkillers, but they give the lowest amount they can give. Like after my secondary root canal with the specialist(for the one that didn't get finished with the face paralysis visit) they prescribed me tylenol 3. I didn't even fill it because tylenol 3 has never helped any pain for me, so why bother.

This new way of doing things sucks for people that have issues with those low level painkillers not working for them. Like percocet and vicodin, they do absolutely nothing for pain for me, yet every doctor around here will only prescribe those. They make my brain a bit slow, but I'm still in just as much pain so I don't take them. You can tell your doctors they don't work for you and they just assume you're trying to get high. I went through my tonsillectomy recovery with no painkillers. And I took muscles relaxers during my leg injury because that at least stopped some of the muscles spasms in my leg that made my pain worse, but no painkillers for that either.

I think it's starting to get a little extreme. A family friend had *surgery* in Texas and they sent her home with Tylenol. And then the government wonders why people are buying black market meds. I used to use Soma for my back, which I don't even think is a narcotic painkiller, but now they won't prescribe it because it's status changed. I'm sorry, but flexeril doesn't touch my back pain when it goes wonky. Ugh, sometimes I wonder, I really do.

Tylenol after a surgery is just ridiculous. I can't even get rid of a headache with tylenol it sure as heck isn't gonna get rid of any other pain.

Flexiril only works for me when the back pain/stiffness is mildly irritating and I take it before going to bed I can move ok in the morning, but it doesn't do anything for my back if I take it at any other time. It does help with some of the muscle spasms in my legs though.
