OK, here's what I came up with...it needs some improvement but it's a start!

AWESOME BERT!!!!!!

Maybe you could reverse the color on the lil ruler to make it white over black so it blends in with the Trippy pic (?) and line up the bottom inch mark with the end of the Trippy ? :)

I really appreciate how you take folks' feedback into consideration. that's pretty awesome!

p.s. i really like the photos as you have them; they're much nicer than the ones I have when I get them home. size indicator would be very nice to have if possible.

pic time! I'm waiting on this nifty to arrive:

Reidus, I did it again. Went and bought Jake two more toys. I can not stop, but he lost one and destroyed one, so it's ok, right?

Bert, I like the way you do the pictures now. I think it's a realistic indication of how they look under the *best* lighting and I've never received one that seemed completely out of whack from what I was expecting. I would expect a professional photo like yours to make the tip look as good as possible, I mean it's like any sort of professional photo. I look better in pictures when someone who knows what they are doing takes the pic, you know what I mean?

I know a lot of people are more interested in having a size indicator. This isn't that important to me, personally, I tend to use them in all shapes and sizes, but I can definitely understand this being helpful for those who have a preference.

I'll have my friend who is a professional photographer take a look at my trippies against the photos and see if he has any suggestions. He's probably better for that than me. :)

This is what I was thinking Bert --

I usually measure from the o-ring up

Very nice Tippy by the way :D

Katann - it's totally great to buy more toys  I went on a toy buying craze once... every time I went shopping I'd bring home toys for the doggie girls - it got so they became even more excited when I got home and sometimes even lost their breath! I decided to stop making them so excited about it :D Now I buy them more randomly

Jake is the first dog I've had in a long time that was interested in toys. Gandalf liked them when he was a puppy, but by about 3 his favorite sport was to nap.

I worked on more clicker training today. Jake has been afraid to go outside. I've been starting to think he might have been abused in his last home. I managed to get him by the end of the session to come all the way outside from the kitchen to the middle of the backyard and about 10 minutes ago he went out without any coaxing from me. I'm hoping that once he quits being scared he'll quit having "accidents" inside. He's really, really smart and I'm having so much fun with him. Making sure Sally still gets her love too, though!

Evening Tripsters! Hope you all well and life is treating you as well.

Cyc she is wayyyyy to cute bro she is def gonna be a heart breaker lol

Bert I tend to agree with D on what pic style I preferred, this one
T6aU8.jpg

Because it seemed more accurate to me. The current one doesn't allow for darker colors to show true imo though I will say the current ones do show off most of the tips very well as long as they don't have darker color glass on the edges which tend to blend in like this one
3r7o.jpg

either way I have never been disappointed in my tips at all and anyone with any sence whats so ever would know that things look dif in dif light lol

I like the photos as-is. It looks like a professionally photographed work of art, showcasing what it looks like in proper lighting.

Would they rather have a crappy phone pic? to show what it will like in their dim apartment? I dunno, but I'm pretty sure the majority would take professional-looking over a pic of what-it-will-look-like-in-your-living-room any day. Just my :2c:

Your living room must be like mine!

My tips never look like the pics in the house, they look best when I am driving down the freeway, hand with mod on the steering wheel, and the sun comes out ..... which ain't that often, let me tell you!

I like the pics the way they are though, I have an idea of what colors you use, and how the tips will look when I get it.
I can see where someone new would not know what to expect.

Bert I think with any photograph you want to look as good as possible, including artwork. But when you take a picture of the Pieta (probably the most amazing work of art IMO) great photos are not going to very in a great degree.

When they photograph diamonds, they don't do it so it looks like a piece of cut glass. The make sure that they show it with all the brilliance and beauty of that stone's potential. When a woman wears that stone does it always look like that stunning picture, no, but sometimes when the light hits just right, it shines like the sun. And no matter the light, she knows the beauty within that diamond.

... And that is what I want of my TT's. I want to see the most flattering picture of what fire and sand and some unbelievable men... and woman can turn those elements into. Will I always be able to see it, no, but I'll know it lives in there.

When I saw this picture, I was blown away. It immediately brought me back to 'my Trippy days', but also the amazing artwork. I also think it might be your best photo ever Bert....To have been able to catch the yellow throughout and the flames of blue is amazing.

The color in this TT is orange from the base to almost the top with a thin band of yellow then a thicker band of blue at the tip.

... And in it's absolute perfection it looks like this.

.
I've never been able to capture it in a pic but in the right light I get that flash and in different lights I get different hues. This TT always makes me smile when I use... and not once have I thought "hey this isn't like the photo"........ because I know what lies inside. :)

My opinion, since you asked us all for them, is that either use the current photography method with a size indicator and disclaimer stating something like, "These depictions show the Tip in the best possible lighting, much as a jeweler would display fine jewelry, so as to give a complete and true representation of the nuances of the artwork. Sub optimal lighting will cause the tip to appear differently and may be less vibrant than shown here.'

Or

Again, just opinion here, I also thought the photos on the black velvet background while not as 'vibrant' and true to the complete inner beauty, may be the best compromise of reality vs expectation. That being said, I do not think you should have to compromise your work with photos that do not let them be all they can be so I would vote for the photography style you get the most satisfaction out of with a disclaimer if need be.

Good Afternoon Trippyville,
I hope you're all well and enjoying you pre-Friday. Still cranking along with little rest in sight. I'm going to our American Legion tonight to help with some gift bag packing for their charity golf outing this weekend. The Brew Clan will be representing on Saturday night at the awards banquet where we continue to provide for a 100% charity to benefit needy families in Central Indiana. This gala was founded by a small group of golfers that included my Dad so this is our big deal in terms of our annual charity work. Nothing makes me happier than to hear how many families we've grown it to when the donations are all in. There should be over 700 children that will be helped through this effort. It's also a great group of people with even a few vapers I've converted over the years. I think I was the first to show up with a mod (REO) that I happily used in the non-smoking portion of the building. I got a lot of questions but no negativity since I kept the clouds to a minimum. Now I know of at least 6 members who vape openly in the facility. Thankfully the membership hasn't complained and it's giving a few of the old die-hard smokers an option while their playing poker or sitting somewhere other than in the main bar area. Now if we could just get the rest of the country on-board. :vapor: Brew

Hey Delilah,
Well I used to be almost 6' but now more like 5' 10.5". The BMI chart still indicates "Obese" and 170 would be in the upper quadrant of the healthy/normal range. So I still have a LOOOONNNNGGGG way to go. I planned on it taking a full 2 years with little personal goals along the way. 1st milestone is “One-derland” or not having the number 2 as the first digit in my weight. Then 190, 180, etc. I don't want to go too low and building muscle may make 170 a moot point but you have to have goals to keep you headed towards something. :2c:

{{{{{Brewski}}}}}}}

36lbs is OUTSTANDING!!! :toast: I'm not sure how tall you are but 210 sounds handsome and 190 sounds quite svelte

As for me, don't ask!  I took two steps forward and yada yada yada  Your results show me that staying the course is worth it. You're an inspiration :thumb:

Bert,
No matter how or if you spin a disclaimer, I think you're dead on with your current photographic technique. I appreciate that you bring across all the internal detail even if in lesser light some of it may be obscured. I always feel like your images show me exactly what I'm getting. A size indicator would be helpful but your choice of background and lighting is just fine. Brew

Quick question for everyone:

What do you think of the TrippyTips photos?

I have been contacted recently by someone who was concerned that the photo looked more vibrant than the TrippyTip in everyday lighting. Most people in the thread have been around long enough to see the progression in the photo techniques I have used. I used to use my black wallet as a backdrop on a table and have since switched to using a professional photo box that can make the TrippyTips appear to float and shows the colors in a diffused pure white light that is similar to the sun.

Glass is such a tricky thing to photograph due to the fact that it can both absorb and reflect light and will be prone to looking different depending on which lighting situation surrounds it. The current technique shows off 100% of the reflected colors since the lights are set up shining towards the glass. As a glassblower I love showing off my glass in an ideal lighting situation, and would never try to or need to trick anyone into collecting TrippyTips. I just want everyone's honest opinion about if I need to take a step back to the wallet on the table or if you think that your TrippyTips have been true to the pictures your purchases have been based on.

I spend a ton of time and put a lot of love in to taking these photos to get them to turn out the way they do. The goal is to be sure that these photos are adding value and to give an honest description of the design and colors so you all can make informed choices about what you are collecting. Please advise!
Thanks,
~Bert
