I've decided against making uranium glass drip tips mainly because
1) The glass is very very expensive
2) The glass is radioactive and people put drip tips in their mouth
3) The dust and sharp pieces if one were to break are especially hazardous.
Sorry! This is why we created the mock uranium tips though.![]()
Having a large collection of it, I can tell you that at one point I was a bit concerned so did the research, and the amount of radiation is not enough to actually be hazardous to use to serve or store food on or drink from. Pieces made from it are considered harmless if one wanted to actually use them.
Here is a reference with references to support this:
Custard Glass
That said, I don't feel it would stand up to the abuse we put our tips to, so really wouldn't be worthwhile to use as a tip unless it was a novelty. I am thinking it would shatter much, much more easily. I did drop one of your tips last week which chipped, but is not sharp at all and very tiny. The only reason I even realized it was chipped was a little bit of roughness. Very important when you put something to your lips that it not cut you and if you made a tip out of the glass I am familiar with, if it didn't shatter outright it might cut you.
If we have an earthquake here in LA during my lifetime, you will have more custard glass pieces than you will know what to do with! Knocking on wood that doesn't happen!
