Hi all. Hope your week's off to a great start! Mine is, especially after yesterday (sorry Pietro :D). I decided to put off traveling home until Thursday, mostly so that I can make sure my family gets their greens and peas for New Years. I'm lightening things up a bit though. Instead of the traditional pork roast, I'm doing marinated pork tenderloins; instead of my awesome collard greens (which I'm the only one here who like them), I'm sautéing spinach with garlic and red pepper flakes and a splash of lemon juice. I'm still doing Hoppin John though; they'll have to deal, lol.

Afternoon Tripsters! Hope this finds you all well. Been busy here trying to catch up on my local vape seen since I fell so far behind. Which has helped take my mind to a better place. Ill actually be at a News Years party this year instead of asleep lol. I usually just stay home and go to bed like normal cause the hubby always has to work those days. But I decided I needed to go out and have some fun this year. Wishing you all the happiest of New Years. love and hugs

Morning Tipsters, Well I am still away and having a great time. Ralf's son, wife and 2 year old Thomas is staying with us. This is a son who he hasn't had contact with for 18 years. Thomas is what you would call a FREE CHILD, no discipline. So he gives his parents a hard time. A lot of screaming to get their attention. It takes 2 people to change his nappy because he screams and fights them all the way.
Last night I decided I couldn't take the poor mite screaming anymore so armed with toys and Porsche I entered the lions den and changed his nappy with Mum and Dad out of the room. He was perfect, happy, no tears and lots of laughs when Porsche tried to put the old nappy in the bin. So now I am trying to translate what I did with him to his parents without offending them.
Thomas's mother is Vietnamese and they don't believe in any discipline or control. Of course she is totally worn out and this little terror on wheels is just getting bigger and louder.
I think by the end of the week Thomas and I will be great friends and hopefully he will be happier himself.
Yung is a wonderful cook and I am learning all her favorite dishes to cook. As you know I love cooking so this is amazing opportunity to learn how to cook authentic dishes.
I am tired but so happy for Ralf being reunited.

Good evening all! Had a busy Christmas, I was finishing up crochet presents till Christmas Eve but got them all finished, then I went to moms and made Christmas Eve dinner for everyone. When I got home that night it was a very late night of washing dog bedding because the little weasels escaped the main part of the house and went out to the shop/laundry room and peed all over the big dogs bed and blankets. Then it was baking and cooking on christmas day. Back to work on the 26th and got a present from my boss! He paid for 2 tires and an alignment for my car. Then I went to pick up my mail and found this in my mailbox

Good Evening Trippyville,
I hope everyone is having a great night. Reidus is back at making me hungry again. Oh there will be Hoppin' John at our place for sure on New Years Day but our supermarket has to stretch to get the few southerners around here their black-eyed peas. You'd think we lived in New England or somewhere way up North. Brings good luck to our house every year. Brew

Hey Nick,
Karen say she likes her men older and worldly so that hug just made her evening. She just finally sat down to decompress a little before bed. I need to get a few hours of rest myself so I can keep it together for late-night/early-morning pancake breakfast.

I don't cook much but my pancakes are a New Years tradition for the late-nighters. With some real maple syrup("surple" as my Dad used to put it) brought down from Canada and some thick-cut bacon that would set Cyclin's soul on fire. Mimosas all the way around followed by a quart of cool water and a date with a soft pillow. That's the ideal end to my New Years Morning and I hope you all enjoy what that evening/morning is for you. Sending my best to all of Trippyville hoping you have a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. :toast: Brew

p.s. - Don't know how many care or have the same channel line-up but there's a Godzilla movie marathon/block playing on Encore Action that starts at 12am EST, 1/1/14 . I can't miss an old-school, pure-camp monster movie and I think it's 4 back to back starting at midnight and then replayed @ 7:15am EST. Definitely not making the 2nd showing!

Hey Calsax !!!

... And a Howdy and special Nick hugs for Karen :)

Hello! I am glad that most of you had a Merry Christmas. I am also saddened to hear about the losses of some dear fuzzy family friends.

I have been unable to check in because it turns out T-mobile has shoddy internet in south Florida where we were staying last week. It was an interesting trip involving parents, siblings, and in-laws all living under one roof. My grandparents were staying across the street as well. Luckily everyone plays nicely together and we all had a blast!

Now I am looking forward to a new year and a new SALE! I just need to grasp which day would work best for everyone in the next week or two. Please let me know, and I will make it happen :D

Reidus you've inspired me. I made Pain Perdu this morning (saw it a while ago on Diners Drive-ins & Dives :)) and it turned out pretty good. I used about half the butter called for and I think it was still too much. I also browned both sides (didn't full read directions, I'm a man...don't judge :p) and the bottom was over cooked and the center not quite enough. But overall I likeded it !!!

Glad you and Beata had a great time Bert.

Glad to be an inspiration, Nick! As I tell my students: "If you leave New Orleans, be aware that you've probably left the best meals of your life behind you." :D

Bert, sounds like a great trip. I love SoFla, especially Key West!
