Reidus - what I read about Burls made it sound like they grown more commonly on Redwood .... this does look like redwood. The Burls just make the grain go all wonky .... I think. 
Y'all know the difference between aquariums in and North and South? In the North, by the tank there's a sign giving the fish's Common name, Latin name and a brief description. In the South, that same sign has the common name, Latin name, brief description and a recipe!

Reidus - what I read about Burls made it sound like they grown more commonly on Redwood .... this does look like redwood. The Burls just make the grain go all wonky .... I think.
I think it's redwood as well. And yes, it does make the grain go wonky. Kind of like a knot. That's why burls are so expensive. It's why in furniture, you only ever see burl as an inlay; there's not enough of it to make the actual furniture.
