Speaking of beauty, I was thinking it would be beautiful if the vapor traveled DOWN the TrippyTip through a clear portion, and then spiraled upwards again to be inhaled. I came up with a design that I am going to implement tomorrow. You won't be able to drip into it, but it should be great for tank users!

Like a lab condenser? That would be cool :)

Interesting thoughts on beauty... I've dabbled in art all my life, so meditating on beauty also became sort of a hobby with me. Never could come up with any kind of a formula... There is just no objective consistency to it, seemingly.

Here is a story:

I was driving on the NJ Turnpike once... Right through the industrial area. It's wetlands, filled with garbage dumping areas, chemical factories, warehouses, factories of every sort. It stinks so bad, on some days you break speed limit just to get through it as fast as possible - and NJ drivers are not known for driving slowly to begin with. :D

This time, though, was a bit different. The sun was just about to set - enough light to see, but not quite enough to drive without lights on. The pools of water between tufts of tall grass were reflecting the setting sun like burning mirrors. The garbage heaps, the factories, the warehouses were all silhouetted against the sky - a mixture of strange, fantastic shapes, indistinguishable from one another, abstract and absolutely fascinating to the eye. Smoke from the chimneys turned parts of the sky hazy watercolor purple. And through it all the Turnpike twisted like a huge slithering snake alive with endless, dense stream of lights.

It was utterly beautiful in a distopic kind of way. It helped that my window was closed and the air conditioner was set on max - no stink. :D

That moment really stuck in my memory - because on any other day the place is incredibly ugly, a definition of ugly, in fact. I think the key to beauty is the emotion that arises when you look at something... Which probably depends less on the stimulus our sensory apparatus' perceive and more on the intention and the state of mind in which we perceive it. The goal of an artist, then, is to arouse emotion - there is something about an "object", be that object a painting, or a piece of music, or a landscape that, if it touches us on an emotional level, is perceived as beauty. Interestingly, the emotion doesn't -at all - has to be of the "positive" variety. Sadness can be just as beautiful as joy. Disgust... maybe not so much, but even that...

Basically, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", though a cliche, is probably as true as anything can be here... IMHO. :)

MWA asked me to come up with a solution to a problem that was a plague to vapors for many years...juice reflux! You know, zingers, lava bubbles, when the juice comes up and burns your lips and tastes disgusting giving you a nasty nicotine buzz? The Donut was the solution I came up with to that problem. With a donut you will never experience another juice reflux again!

That's good info Bert.

Hi folks! Well I've been watching the news pretty continuously the last couple of days (luckily, one of our local channels provided live streaming news coverage during the entire time, so I was able to get much better info than the weather channel or God forbid, the local Atlanta news, which claimed that the New Orleans levees had breached, which was thankfully untrue). New Orleans itself weathered the storm quite well, apparently, with mostly downed trees and power outages. Which is a great relief for me. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for some of the suburbs (which is where the ATL channel made it's mistake). I'm waiting on word on my house itself. My next door neighbor hunkered down at one of the downtown hotels. I talked to her on Tuesday night; she and her girlfriends were having a grand time, she was even up around $150 at the casino. I'm hoping my power will be back on sometime this weekend so I can drive back on Sunday or Monday.
Peace, you're welcome to the rain. We've had plenty for the last few days. :D
