So I got to thinking about the inlet size problem and it occurred to me that maybe the issue isn't one of size but more a problem of the draw being too smooth. The airy draw is more an issue of a perfectly smooth draw and a tight draw is still smooth but choked off. In thinking about regular atties, there are no adjustments and Joye seems to provide a very nice feel to the vape. The difference is turbulence. Looking into creating turbulence in a flow of air, a study of fluid dynamic states "creating smaller and smaller structures which produces a hierarchy of eddies" So my thought is creating a single tubular, cylindrical port with two (or more) restrictive baffles like so:

I think the 2 hard turns taken by the air (might need baffles to overlap but not sure)would result in a more turblent flow that would still blow across the coil properly. I'd have to sample it but perhaps then the 1/16" hole would be appropriate. From what research I've done the 3/64s and 1/16s openings are preferred and vapor + flavor increase with those modifications. My experience is yes they do but the draw is just too smooth. Not sure what else I can offer but I will continue to think about this design. Brew
Beta Tester, Beta Tester, Oh, Oh, Oh!!

I haven't a clue how to design a baffle to induce turbulence without testing along the way. I was hoping to see Matthew pop in to tell me exactly how that might be acheived and that he did that 6 months ago  Sorry buddy couldn't pass that up. You know you're the man right! :2cool:
At the moment, the ideas that come to mind stem from the FATTY design that has a knurled ring which threads down over three holes and this allows you to adjust the flow but I need to think about how to achieve a sliding cover in glass to acheive the same result. You're right since some folks want 1/32", others say 3/64" and some are all about 1/16" for the inlet, it makes your job more difficult. You'd almost have to enbed a small threaded tube that had a side-ported cap or holes in the tube where as you screwed down the cap, you'd close down the draw. Still chunking. BBL Brew

Good afternoon Trippyville,
Well I'm all in my happy place and have enjoyed going back into the halls of Trippy-central. So great to see all of the Trippy Tips that go back to when I first started lurking the thread. I am also happy to be getting better at the ERA coil and wick building although I don't think I'll ever get over the airy draw. I have been using 510s & 306s for so long that the air turbulence I get as the air passes through all of the channels in those atomizers seems to be a requirement for my total enjoyment. Every now and then I'll get the coil sizzling on the ERA and that feels great but I can't figure out how to make that happen everytime. I also got very used to the short, hard pulls on the gurgley HH.357s so I miss that as well. Now I try to pull long and slow to get the denser vapor I'm wanting. I think someone needs to add a baffle to the ERA that directs air onto the coil but also duplicates the pull off a 510. I ordered some 3mm Silica and will try some differing coil techniques to hopefully replicate the coil sizzle. I really need to fill the air hole back in to try a 3/64" inlet. I'm still wondering if the JB Weld material would be safe to vape through. That or resoldering and drilling the appropriately sized hole in that compound. Either way "Just Say No, Thank You" to the 1/16" air inlet. Brew
No on the JB weld not healthy did you try the disposable razor mod? If you dont hear a sizzle either you haven't squonked enough or you dont have you VVG turned up high enough or both!!!! Don't make me come over there and teach you:p

Hey Brew,
PM me a pic of the baffle, rough sketch is great, and I will work on it. I am going to be r&d ing some top caps for those this week.
Im in town for Beta testing Bert so I can give you immediate feed back Just saying :)

Hey guys! Sorry I haven't been on I have been sick all day. I am heading to the doctor...congrats again Star!! Catch up later:)
So sorry your not feeling well:(

Glad you made it out alive
