You can use a carto on the Reo ... I did it, and it worked well. And any ole tips, metal or something. That would be "barn safe" and you wouldn't need to squonk as often.
You can play with it and see how it goes. :)

it's gonna go.......oops....crash.....dang it.....$#&^$%

Ooops .... I probably shouldn't say "any ole tips" on the Trippy thread .... sorry Bert.

I will rephrase that to "a tip that you wouldn't mind if it broke" .... nah, still not good .... oh never mind.

Cyclin,
I bought 32AWG and 3mm silica wick at Silicawicks.com and bought one of Carl's specials in the form of 50' of 3mm wick and 50' of 32AWG wire for $45. Since I'm using a REO VV Grand, I've been doing a 6/5 or 5/4 wrap. 6/5 is 6 coils visible from the top and 5 visible from the bottom, 5/4 same idea. Usually 1.8 - 2.2 ohms. The 6 is kinda tricky to fit while the 5 coil is fairly easy. However Bert may have resolved that going forward. I wrap the coil directly onto the wick with the small allen wrench inserted between the 2 wick ends. Once I have it wrapped and neat, I pull out the allen wrench and this keeps the wick from being wrapped too tight, choking off the wicking. Mel @ Budz Worx says to keep spacing at least 1mm between wraps to keep from burning lighter juices. More coils mean more surface area and in theory better flavor & vapor if you can crank up the voltage. A straight 3.7V device would benefit from a 4/3 wrap for sure. The other trick is to draw slowly. Too strong a draw cools the coil and the results in less vapor. A slow steady pull allows the coil to heat well and I can literally feel the juice just boiling on the coil. I prefer Pink Spot Mojitos, Riptide and Tahiti Breeze at night so a higher VG content really kicks the vapor....yum. I also make a single loop with the wick and drape it over the center post before installing the legs of the coil. This produces a bit of a juice well around the juice hole and keeps the wick saturated. The legs of the coil also keep a large portion of the wick against the floor of the ERA to be certain you can vape every drop. Brew
Here's an quick image to illustrate.

Awesome thanks for the info! I am placing a silica order now. Luckily I have 100' of 32 kanthal as well as 100' spools of other gauges as I usually only use rebuildables now. The ERA however is my first silica one. I'm using the bottom-fed ERA on a DNA-equipped Ignis mod, so the variable wattage plays great with the atty. I am going to try a 5 wrap tonight using your wick setup. The method I have been using involves more material it looks like, its a piece of silica folded in half a few times, then I wrap the coil and insert the legs, once thats all set I use a small piece of wire to tie up the ends of the silica around the opposite side of the posts. So anyway I am going to give your method a go when I get home. Do you just use a single length of silica and do the one loops? You don't have to fold it up for more width or anything?

:D

Holy Doodoo Cyclin, were you on America's scariest car pursuits or what....Damn! Brew

Never mind I just saw your reply.
Lol ya... no hot pursuits or major chases. I was pulled over for going the speed limit in the slow lane while "swerving slightly within the lines" is what the report said  But I was inebriated so I deserved the ticket. Still, 7 grand and 3 years later (and I haven't broken the law once in that time) and I'm still paying for it.

 I don't think there's a "trippa-litical" way of saying that sorry Blu.

I'm still at work so she's not dressed up yet. Took her to the Lodge this week tho for a halloween thing so here's her in her costume. We wanted to go more elaborate but the Mrs picked this out without me  <<I wish there was a madder smiley than that, I was seriously ...... I could have bought her a WAY better costume. No wonder she lost the ....ing costume contest...that stupid peacock won...
