I also found a cheap, all stainless rba tank (OOS now :glare:) that comes very close to the DID, performance wise. Looks very steampunk on my Stinger. Think I need a silver one (not black) to properly show it off. AGA Hydra - Rebuildable Atomizer - Stainless

Tripped out, of course

Thanks guys! He really likes that color. He's not fond of flat mouths or donuts. He likes the shape of the peanut but that one has a blue stripe through the middle and he'd prefer all green. I'll be watching the sales like a hawk for one for him though, I have a pretty good idea of what he likes. =) Now if there is a dark green dragon tip... watch the elbows, I'll be all over it. ;)

Well I received a message that asked me to better explain this design so I have some images. Please let me know if you need anything additional. This is still cranking out the flavor and I now have a design that is stable enough to make in advance and install without a lot of tools. I did upgrade my allen screws to cheesehead phillips to make the tool use infinitely easier. McMaster Carr has them and the build list was posted in the REO ERA atomizer thread. Here are some images to make this hopefully crystal clear.

Here's my hand wound 6/5 coil wrapped around a folded loop of 3mm braided silica. I folded over just enough to wrap the coil and one could trim the small excess to leave just a nub past the coil on the side the length of the strand exits. I did not insert a pin or the allen wrench to give wiggle room but I also did not crank down on the wraps as I looped them around the silica.

Then imagine that you wiggle the bottom single strand of the silica wick between the positive and negative posts of the ERA from front to back and then loop the wick-n-coil assemble around the center posts to be able to insert the leads into each posts connection holes. When you tighten down the screws onto the coil leads be sure to leave space/gap between the coil and the posts. This was what GOTCHA'd me and a dry-burn should show you if you are shorting out any of the individual wraps. Every single wrap should glow before you trim off the excess coil leads and then retighten the set screws ever so slightly to insure a tight connection. Some folks have reported that after heating the coils a few cycles the screws seem to need to be snugged down. I think after dry-burning as a proof, giving each screw an additional 45°/1/4 turn has kept my leads from coming loose.

Last but not least, pulling on the wick that exits out from underneath the now installed coil-n-wick assembly tightens the loop around the center connector/post. Since the juice holes are on both the front and back of the center connector, squonking pushes the juice directly into the silica thread. No tilting and it seems to wick perfectly. I then trim off the remaining length of the unused or unnecessary silica wick even with the edge of the ERA catch-basin. Here's the finished assembly after a couple evenings of use.

Howdy Trippyville,
Been a big day and will be a busy weekend but wanted to share a bit of good news that may benefit Amber as it made my day.

I had a major break-through on the ERA No Flavor front, after building numerous (9) different wick-n-coil configurations, I've finally discovered what was going on. However, I'll make an exception and that is that I need to build yet another successful wick-n-coil to prove my hypothesis but the issue was fairly obvious I just kept ignoring it. So on to the discovery.

I had been given a multitude of advice trying to help me with my issues and I've read every suggestion, I then researched every reported wick-n-coil design as well as a whole bunch of reviews and ultimately I believe it was Grimm Green's review of the Phoenix or A7 that finally turned on the light. Grimm mentioned to be careful to pull the coil away from the negative and positive poles or you run the chance of shorting out the last few wraps of the coil. That's when the epiphany struck and I remember firing my coil and seeing only the center wraps glowing brightly. I thought the wick was just impeding the heat but NO I was shorting out the last couple of wraps on each end of the coil. So that means even on a 6/5 wrap I only had 2 wraps doing all the work.

So last night I wrapped a 6/5 coil and used the design Cyclin suggested some weeks ago. When I got the coil and wick pulled into the posts, snugged and screwed down tight, a dry-burn showed the same issue of the last 2 coils on each end not glowing orange. So I loosened the screws, backed the leads of the coil out about 1/32" and retightened the screws. This time when I hit the power the entire coil glowed. I then trimmed the leads, juiced the coil-n-wick and 5 pulls later the flavor started coming on strong. So if your not getting flavor from a properly wrapped and powered coil then check the coil to post spacing cause this is way too easy to miss. Whew!

Here's that design Cyclin suggested. It's a bit easier than my other design and perfectly traps the juice on both sides of the center connector. It's essential a single strand of 3mm folded on the end where the coil gets wrapped. The strand is trimmed even with the bottom of the ERA base right in front of the coil. This lets you place the wick-n-coil and after getting everything set, you can cut the strand off after tightening the loop around the center connector. Very little wasted wick with this method. Brew
