Hmm I don't have much experience using cotton wick. When you are using the silica wick you stated you had make sure to torch the whole thing after wrapping, those for me that usually only kills the initial bad silica taste. If you aren't getting any shorts it sounds like the problem is entirely wicking-related. Try using Kill's suggestion about wrapping looser coils, as it does sound like your coils may be choking your wick. These wraps are more forgiving than SS Mesh wicks when it comes to shorts, but you still can experience the burnt taste Kill mentioned when one coil strays too far. Make sure your wraps are loose but touching the wick, and that they are spaced evenly apart from each other.Cyclin, I'm using 32g Kanthal wire and a variety of wicking materials; so far I've tried cotton wicking and some braided silica wick I got from RTD. I torch the wire before winding, but not the wick. I'm pretty sure you shouldn't torch cotton wick, lol. I"m guessing it's more a matter of practice than anything else. I"ve only wrapped 3 so far; no shorts, and they came out at 1.2, 1.8 and 2.5 respectively. It's more a matter of getting them to wick properly than anything else.
ThanksSorry I missed your party Blu got caught up at work
Love the cutie pics Ben![]()
Lol Try taking a needle or pin, you could use one of your syringes, and stick it through the middle of your wick, long-ways. You can even go through the coil as well and if the coil's legs aren't attached to the posts, you can even use this method to "loosen" your wraps. Once you've stuck the needle/pin through the center of the wick just rotate it in small circlesOne question: How does one fluff a wick?
Here, just drew this up in case my pin suggestion was confusing

by a couple hours. Woe is me.
