I want to start a conversation about custom orders. I'll start by apologizing for how long they are taking. I am sorry to those waiting on them. We never meant to let you down, mislead you about the time it would take, or frustrate you in any way.
Freddy and I had a chat, and while good things take time, nobody realized it would be this much time. I just want to open the door for discussion here to collect suggestions on how we can make things go smoother in the future. Some suggestions that Freddy made included

Skype-ing before we start or during the creation process
Preview pictures that come up as you place your order
Create ways for people to more clearly express exactly what they are looking for to reduce the number of customs that get re-made

If you are still waiting on a custom please express your feelings to us. If you have more suggestions on how we can better handle custom orders in the future please share that too. I will be checking back in as work permits today. We will continue to do our best at getting these made, and with your suggestions it will hopefully happen more smoothly/quickly.

I am using Tapatalk. Please excuse errors.

I reread what I wrote on mine and it looks like I was so excited I traveled back in time and failed 3rd grade English....
I was expecting the process to take a long time. With something like this I would rather it take a long time. I have more trippies than I can use and plan to get more. The custom is a little more special so take as long as you need. Something that you had ideas strike you for and had fun making is way more appealing than you having a deadline to fill my order.

Adding more photos and options definitely sounds like a good plan. A trippy key might help across all types of sales. Where people can see shapes, styles and maybe colors labeled.
A I am picky talk to me Option
A Lebowski make it when you want and send it along, the dude abides option

Maybe a basic style that can move faster, ie I want a red taper with polka dots
Then an advanced with a longer lead time stated ie I want an upside down question mark with wings and a smile

For the most part it seems like all of the above comments agree that some enhanced forms of communication will make it better. If you guys are really pressed for time and or want to make it more personal the limited open orders thing sounds ok.

Let me take a stab at the easier of the two lists we are working on. For Artist's Choice TrippyTips we are currently 6 orders back.

ORDER # - Date Ordered
100001565 - 9/6 (Currently has the list to pick from)
100001644 - 9/16
100001670 - 9/17
100001672 - 9/19
100001830 - 10/12
100001872 - 11/11

We are going through these rather quickly now too.

One thing that comes to mind is that there are times where I was forced to pick a color, but the choice of color I wanted wasn't there. I tried to make this up by putting what I wanted in the comment section, but I think it created confusion. What if there was an "other" option where we could type in the color or shape, etc, that we were looking for.

Ok, so I read on the custom suggestions and I have to partly agree with every one of you guys' thoughts

I like the idea of a sketch, talking too. I personally dont have the time to communicate through emails much, but as you that have know I do respond. I am more of an audio/visual person and perhaps a phone meet would be more effective.

Kami has some really good points, generally speaking custom ordering is a specialty of any business which takes an unexpected time. I know this from stained glass work. During busy times we would be 6 months to a year behind sometimes more. It's generally a situation that balloons unexpectedly and then the timeline shifts, which we are experiencing. I also look forward to having some assistance in my share of this dialog i.e. an effective artisan to take on some my art glass fabrication duties (not the finished pieces) I am currently exploring that seriously and feel it could happen soon.

So, I have in mind what I can and cannot accomplish before these holidays in regards to custom work on my end and it wont as much as I feel you all deserve. I know that these will be some of the most cherished prices in your collections and I honor that in my work, you all can see how much I honor each custom piece I create. I would hope that it's understood that my efforts and intents are also reflected in my actions, perhaps not as much as in my words. It is difficult to be expressing our goals and efforts daily, live...and come short. Kinda makes one feel a little, should I say....winded. I dont mean to mislead, I am just trying the hardest I can and falling short. Please, also understand I do not receive any compensation until the orders are completed, which is not a financial strain in any way.

So...all this said. I am looking to make this experience with you simple and I hope any of you that want to ask/pm me and choose to create an appointment so we can chat and I can take notes, meet your needs completely. I would be happy to honor that. I'll continue as well to look into this more so all our custom futures are a little brighter.

and, I will refrain in saying what i am doing from now on, I will just show you what I have done that day instead

:)

Oh I like that idea too! Gives you more specific places to add in the customization which could help clear things up

Hey all ... back again -

Bert and Freddy,
I for one, know sometimes I would like a custom that isn't so much an elaborate tip with animals or opals inlaid, I just want a certain color in a certain shape for a certain PV.
I think limiting the # of elaborate ones you do at a time, and maybe having an additional, more conventional category, would help. For example, I would like more mings, in almost every solid color. LOL And I bet some folks would like to order more MU in standard shapes, or more solid black, etc.
That may help run some through faster, but still keep the "custom line" going.
