Sooner, the center post is the post with the hole in it. I think Wharf is suggesting taking a pin and pulling on the outside of that post, not from the hole itself.

Although, looking at my cartos, there appears to be a slot in it where a screwdriver would fit. You might be able to adjust it by unscrewing slightly.
There's the outer ring with the threads and an inner ring (pos post). Put the pin in between the two at about a 15-20º (shallow) angle and pry up a bit.
Some of them will snap the wiring if you try to turn them, but some will screw out.
Yeah, I wouldn't try unscrewing it, they're not usually threaded in. That slot is for air flow, not a screwdriver ;-)

on another note... thanks wharf, your help solved the problem although i did just stick the pin in the hole and pry lightly all the way around. i glad to have the help i have here
