Hello Tripsters!

I haven't been around in a few days and I'm about a million pages behind, so I'll try to catch up when I can. I'll probably be offline a good deal for the next little bit, but I'll try to pop on now and again.

On Christmas Eve my Italian Greyhound broke his left leg. We did surgery and had plates and pins put in. This is the second leg he has broken (and no I don't abuse him, they just have fragile legs). Well, the break does not appear to be healing properly. The bone is dissolving and one of the pins is now coming through the skin and it's gotten infected. I had my local vet look at him and have an appointment with his surgeon tomorrow, but right now I don't know what is going to happen.

To be honest, I've maxed out all of our credit cards and borrowed as much as I can to fix him the first time. If this isn't something that can be fixed easily, I don't know what we are going to do. The best solution I've come up with is to turn him over to the Italian Greyhound rescue because they will fix him, but if I do that, they will adopt him out to another family. It's a better solution than putting him down, but it breaks my heart. I've had the little guy for almost 9 years and he is my heart.

So, I may not be very social for a few days while I try to figure this out. I am praying for a miracle. I know he's a dog and not a person, but he's part of my family and I love him dearly. So, any prayers or good thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I hope everyone in Trippyville is doing well, and I'll be back around when I'm feeling a little better.

Hello Tripsters!

Just got back from the surgeon. Basically they said we can't make a decision on what to do with the leg until the infection heals, so for now it's antibiotics and we'll wait and see how things look in a week. They still seem to think that's it's that there will still be problems with the plate, but they said it's possible that once the infection clears up that things will be ok. So for now, just watching and waiting and lots of dog cuddles until we know more. Not the greatest news, but at least there is a possibility that things will be ok.

Thanks for all of your support. I'm off to take a little nap with the wee little guy.

Katann, I'm so sorry to hear this. He is such a cutie and I love him too just from the pics you've posted. maybe once the infection is cleared the leg will heal properly....that may be good news. hope so.
