If been trying to get a hold of my sis n law but her phone doesn't work in the hospital. I've called her sis and she hasn't heard yet. I'm beside myself with worry. I promise to let you all know when I hear something.

Thank you again for your thoughtful prayers and well wishes. Please keep thinking of my brother.

I received a text message from my sis in law. She tells me that my brother will be staying in the hospital for a few days. They have scheduled a procedure tomorrow where they will be placing a camera down his throat to assess the damage done to his heart by the infection. Must be some kind of ultra sound thing. If the damage is not so severe that he'll need immediate open heart surgery, he will be placed on a six week i.v. antibiotic (will go home with the I.V.). After the six weeks they will set a date for either heart valve replacement or repair of the damaged heart tissue (if possible). I'm guessing I will know more tomorrow.

He is so scared.

Dan's heart valves will have to be replaced. He's 39 yrs old and will have open heart surgery - I can't believe this. All of this because of a scratch on his leg (that's how the bacteria entered his body).

I'll be at the Hospital in the morning and will update when I know more.

Don't worry too much. I know several people that have had open heart surgery, it has come a Long long way. (still scary, I know)

Bacteria can do lots more damage than we think. Even strep throat can damage your heart, so check out those sore throats people, and wash your hands.
