Hi there,

I've just bought myself the Aspire nautilus (the bigger one) with the BVC coils. Now, I've primed it by adding liquid to the coil. a couple of none powered draws and left it to soak for a good 40 minutes, trying it off and on. Sadly I'm not getting any flavour out of it, apart from a chemically sort of dry taste, like the coil hasn't wicked yet. Is this normal? Any tips on getting it working?

Also, I have checked the coil that it came with and it is tightened into the nautilus very tight. Should it be tightly fitted, or slightly looser?

Been really looking forward to getting one of these so I hope this is fixable.

Thanks!

The BVC's are a hybrid clearomizer & cartomizer, so there's a lot of wick material to become saturated.

I didn't use my Nautilus's very long before I gave them to my daughter to use (I use rebuildable tanks and drippers exclusively). I also used to work in a vape shop. Many customers who used the BVC's said they experienced exactly what Jdurand said about a break in period.

Tip: coil heads should be "snug", not tight or loose.

Hi James!

The other question so far unasked is did you clean the Nauti (except the coil) before you loaded it up? I'm running the full and the mini after a multi-month hiatus, and I'm really enjoying them. I start low on a fresh coil - about 9W (on the 1.8ohm coil) for a few hits, and then nudge to about 9.5W Few more hits, then another nudge, etc. I land around 11W (give or take a touch) - that seems to be *MY* happy spot. To convert to voltage, I'm in the neighborhood of 4.1-4.4V

No, I didn't clean it out; I wasn't advised by the guy in the shop. Should I have? Also, as Baditude said it should be snug but mine is very tight - I can't get it out with just my fingers. Should I use some pliers and loosen it and then tighten it with my fingers?
Also, thanks for the input on the voltage sweetspot, that seems to be in the range I'm using, which seems pretty good, at the moment. :)

I always wash a new tank (without the coil, of course) and rinse well and let it air dry. Snug is good, over-tight is not so good. You may jank up the coil if you try pliers on it, but if you can't loosen it any other way, you might have to do that. I've heard people say to put it in the freezer for a bit (hour or so). Cold "shrinks" and might give you that opportunity to loosen by hand.

Let us know :)

Ah, that is shame, I should have thought! :( Would you recommend putting the juice back into a bottle and cleaning the nautilus out and then putting it back in, or is that just a waste of time? :)
Yeah, I'll have a think about what is best to do. The freezer solution sounds decent, I may try it, or I may just have a go with the pliers (very carefully haha). Thanks for all the advice! :)

Update:
The pliers didn't work. If I applied anymore pressure the coil would have collapsed. This thing is in tight. I mean very tight. :( Might try the freezer method and if you can give any other tips I'll try them. :)

They definitely have a break in period, but more as for power than for taste. I suggest you vape the first tank lower than you normally would, and in the first or second hole to get more liquid. Once the first tank is up, slowly increase power, roughly 2+V the ohms of your head (for a 1.6 ohm head, I'd use 3.6v). Increase as the flavor increases, slowly but steadily. 1.8 ohm heads like to be vaped at 5.2v (at least mine). I don't use wattage, since it depends on the board's readout, I still vape in voltage. For the 1.6 ohm heads, 4.5 wide open gives me top notch flavor.

To +baditude I never liked cartos, but I love the Nauti, so I have to give credit to the filler material :)

Thanks for the advice, I've tried dropping the voltage down to 3.9 and I am getting more flavour out of my Halo RY4. :) I guess it is just a matter of adjusting. Also, Susaz, any recommendations for loosening a stubborn coil? :)

I dab a little 100% VG around all of my threads, including the glass one. Still, every now and again my husband and a pair of pliers have to come to the rescue. Now come think of it, I'll try a little Vaseline... My problem is the main tank, not so much the coil
