these guys are the profesionals?..lol..i would think these guys would be the first to jump at the chance and be the first to do a study, considering that e-cigs could make them actually successful in "treating" smokers..if thats their purpose...
the conflict of interest is obvious to anyone who takes a second to look where their money is coming from...not for profit my ......lol...
im hoping the ECA is gathering ammo to start shooting back...once we see a strategy, we can fight it, especially if they give us easy targets to discredit...stuff like this can turn on em pretty fast if they overreach..and from what im seeing, people are getting very tired of govt stealing our money and freedoms..the "cheerios is a drug" thing is gonna leave a mark..lol

Why premier? What makes them premier? Have they been PROVEN to be the authority on smoking cessation. This is an example of self importance and conflict of interest. They would have no reason to support e cig use. As far as recommending a ban. Idiocy! Maybe you can ban liquid nicotine. No one is going to ban the e cig. Sell it as parts. An atomizer is not going to be illegal. A glass pipe would get banned first, and that's not happening.

Maybe the statistics that show only about 5% who try to stop ever do it.
They think that's GOOD????????? Maybe if someone says that's good, pay me now!

If you follow the link to the full text of letter to Acting Commissioner Sharfstein, you will find a snail-mail address for contacting Acting Commissioner Sharfstein--to whom you can send a good old-fashioned letter politely, positively explaining the errors with ATTUD's letter.

And you can just click on the names of the people on the Board of Directors in GEP's post and you'll get their email addresses...

I thought 'We', the users and suppliers, were NOT pushing these devices as 'smoking cessation devices'...(even IF they might help people quit). And, if they're not 'smoking cessation devices', what are they talking about?

John

Hi John.... welcome to the forum.

It appears, they want us to totally quit... or keep smoking tobacco. There is no middle ground whatsoever. We have had conversations with several groups and they all believe that if it isn't tobacco cigarettes, it should be FDA regulated smoking cessation device. Sad isn't it?

Dear Mr. Bar,

I am writing in regard to your stance on e-cigarettes. I think your desire to help people quit smoking is commendable, I think your stance on e-cigs is questionable. I have smoked for 13 years from the age of 12 smoking, a pack of cigarettes a day for the majority of that time. In early April I heard about the electronic cigarette, after looking into it I decided to try it. Since I got my e-cig I have had 2 cigarettes once I received my kit 1 while I was charging the battery and the 2nd was the next day just to see if I still wanted to smoke. While it has helped me stop smoking tobacco cigarettes I don't view this as a quitting device mearly an alternative I enjoy the act of smoking and nicotine and should these become banned I will return to smoking. You say the e-cig is untested, that is not true, it doesn't have any long term studies, but there has been some testing all of which points to e-cigs being much healthier then a traditional cigarette. The FDA approved cessation devices you are so quick to praise have a 95% failure rate and chantix has very questionable side effects. I have personally tried the gum and the patch with no success. I would be very interested to see where you funding comes from. Would I be wrong in guessing that you get a very large chunk of funding from pharmaceutical companies that make the FDA approved cessation devices you are so quick to recommend despite their 95% failure rate and harmful side effects? Please do some research on e-cigs, and think about peoples health not your wallet.

I disagree with your approach there. Making accusations about funding and making comments about him thinking about health instead of money, is NOT going to help matters! You may be right about that and venting on this forum is fine. But when we write letters and send emails we should be telling them about the BENEFITS of vaping. IE: We should be talking about what vaping has done for us personally. How we don't hack our lungs up anymore each morning, how we sleep better, how we have more energy and how that extra energy is getting us up off our asses and exercising, etc.

That's the way to approach this. We need to talk about how e-cigs have improved our lives and health!

If he wasn't being funded by BP I wouldn't have said that. But since he is a mouth piece for them(BP) no good story is going to change their minds maybe a guilt trip will though.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with your statements! I just think the approach I suggested would be better overall, that's all. It's all part of the game, part of the politics of it all....

Realistically, there is nothing you or any average citizen could say to change their stance.

Face the fact that the e-cig is not going to have universal approval. Even with the general public. But with groups like this one, it has no chance at all. They are tied too closely to companies that would benefit from an e-cig ban. Words of praise are a waste -- like telling your enemy the war is unjust, so throw down the arms. Fat chance.

Do you really expect those good Doctors to place patient care before there pocket book. If everyone quit tobacco they are out of work.

The name of the organization says it all Association for the Treatment of Tobacco Use and Dependence.

Well, downsizing is occurring in many industries...maybe that one needs some downsizing as well. Perhaps they can spend their time curing alcohol and pharmaceutical addictions?

Yeah, I don't think my letter will change anyone's minds but I do feel better knowing I said something and letting them know that we know how the game is being played.

Raise a big enough stink and someone will try to find out what's causing it.

For example: A local tv station is doing an expose on government officials purchasing their diplomas from diploma mills. The $h!t is hitting the fan. See their story here: Fake Degrees: WHNT Uncovers Soldiers, Defense Contractors Who Bought Fake Diplomas For Promotions - WHNT

I bring up this example only to prove that so many things are going on without a spotlight, behind closed doors and when the light hits them or the doors are opened, the end results could change.

Just my .02
