Any battery can be dangerous if something goes wrong. Most people use unprotected IMR batteries due to their relatively safer chemistry and higher amp ratings. Protected batteries have some fail safes built in but they limit the amps. Most vaping applications require high drain (high amp) batteries like the IMR.

General battery safety is something that you should read up on. You also will need to purchase a multimeter to make sure that you are not over draining your batteries, or even over charging them.

If you are overly worried about a battery failure or if you don't want to bother with testing your batteries and following general safety guidelines I suggest sticking with VV/VW devices that have safety features built in.

Hello,

I have done a lot of research on this and it seems like a 50/50 split as to which battery is safer. Some people say protected ICR's are more likely to fail than IMR's. Other people say you MUST use protected ICR's and don't ever use IMR's. You say "Most vaping applications require high drain (high amp) batteries like the IMR." Would this apply to a dingo with an 18350 battery using 1.7ohm cartos?

The two batteries I am considering are below.

AW IMR 18350 Batteries: Ecigarette Batteries, ECig Batteries, Battery 18500

Protected 18350 Lithium Ion Battery, 1200mAh

I also ordered the Vapesafe 2. Would this work with either battery? Does it really add any protection? I have seen mixed reviews on that topic as well.

Thanks!

Thanks!

+1 on vapeSafe with the AW-IMR batteries.
It isn't needed, and in fact probably won't fit most mods with a protected battery. The protected batteries are longer because they have their own fuse built in.
Be sure to pick up a battery tester to check the volts of your battery before they go onto the charger and after they come off the charger. You never want to fully deplete nor do you want to overcharge. I use the NiteCore Intelli charger because it's smarter than me, & I like to use the typical electrical/volt test meter found at most any hardware store or online. I feel assured I'm well protected.

I have a vapesafe, couple of them, but don't really use them. I wrap 1.0 ohm coils and am happy with that and feel safe. I can see why some people go lower, but I haven't felt the need yet. If I went lower than say .8 or .7 then I would probably use a vapesafe all the time. Just my personal opinion there.

I use AW and Efest IMR 18350, 18490/18500 and 18650. I think the biggest thing is, you need to practice some common sense. Don't go wrapping .2 ohm coils. Measure the ohms on the RBA after you wrap a new coil (mine ALWAYS come out to 1.0 ohm). Don't let the batteries drain out too much. It's fairly obvious, even to those of us who don't use kicks when it's time to change the battery. And I never pull a battery straight from the charger and use it. I always, ALWAYS, let it rest for a couple hours.

If you're looking for "deals" on legit AW's, then I believe Rtdvapor has the best prices. Efests can be had at like efest.com or something like that.

I need one 18650 setup & i'm thinking of converting the dingo. Probably should've bought the roller in hindsight, but oh well. My dingo is polished, has any one converted theirs, either to roller, or with 18650 extension tube? How's it look, operate etc.? I'm leaning more towards the extension tube, cause of the price. Looks like with the roller assembly i'll be mad, cause it will cost more than a plain polished roller would've cost me
Either way nothing is in stock right now, so I have some time, plus also need to get some springs :)

Yeah I love the RSST, would like to get a non-clone though I guess. I guess I'll figure out what to do with this RSST, but it really bums me out when I have to fix stuff I paid for. These were from a vendor that claims they were "tested". How can they be tested? How can you test them if they don't screw onto 80% of devices? Yep won't thread onto my Sigelei Zmax either. 5 devices here (not counting my e-pipe) and it threads onto ONE!

you may benefit from getting a die. Rule62 bought one.. here's a post where he tells the correct size to get.

I had a threading problem with my AC9. Some of the second batch had incorrectly manufactured threads, as well. I've also heard of threading issues with some of the RSSTs. Instead of using a file, I purchased a die, and rethreaded my AC9. The correct size die for 510 threads is 7mm x .5. After re threading, my AC9 worked perfectly.

I'd go with the extension tube if 18650 and 18350 is all you'll use.

Been happily using Roller for a couple of months with various attys from RSST, Aga T2, Cobra, HellFires to Stratus.

Started the misfire thing after using the RSST so learned the switch break down and reassemble. Cleaned up everything and all good. Oh if you are going to do this when taking the delrin switch out of the housing ... do it in a jiffy bag!

Anyway have done this a couple of times and am now getting a short somewhere.

Can take a atty behaving perfectly on a Vari put it on the Roller and the battery cap gets hot in a hurry. Know it isn't the atty as it wouldn't work on the Vari.

Any ideas out there?

Yea.. if your atty had a short, the Provari would pick it up. I over tightened my EA mod and pushed the center pin up into a did clone.. when I put it on the provari, it read "OP" when I tried it on the EA, I got a super hot button. I've never heard of a mod getting a short, I would email atmizoo and ask them what to do. Please keep up posted.

Well, I got my matte tubes and easy twist switch today. Gotta hand it to these guys, they get stuff here fast. I really only wanted the inner tube, but could only get both. I guess I will be taking my switch assembly apart this weekend to do the switch swap (that sounded funny).

Interestingly enough Manos told me this: "Just remember to take a look at the tips in the support section! If you follow that advice religiously and take care of what you connect on top of your device, it will keep working for months / years without a single clean."

So... to update the RSST saga, I tried the new connectors that Atmizoo sent and BOTH of my RSST's screw on perfectly??!!! Even the new one that wouldn't screw onto anything (other than my cheap drawtube).

So, since Atmizoo Knew I was trying to use RSST's, they either went the extra step and used a die to make sure my RBA's would fit. OR the RSST is just a completely and utterly wacky, put your hand in the hat and see what you get type of thing. All I know is... KICK ...!

Rollers and Dingos are available again along with all spare parts and accessories.

The Grey Greek (might trademark that name) has had her facelift. Matte inner tube and matte easy twist switch installed. Very nice and worrying about a matching topper is pretty much a thing of the past. Kinda wish I wasn't dumb and had gotten a custom so I could have had a matte bottom cap. The middle of the bottom cap with the logo and your serial # adjusts up and down with an allen key no? Does it come out entirely? If so they should sell the rings.

I am so enamored with this vape, that I am SERIOUSLY considering getting rid of ALL of my VV/VW stuff. I just don't use it any longer. I had pretty much stopped when I had the EA and Drawtube, but now I am perfectly content. I"m even thinking of selling my DNA 12 VW Freight Train Mods rusticated red heart e-pipe! YMMV, but there is something I prefer much more about the simplicity of a totally mechanical set up. I can't even remember the last time I used any of my IBanks either. Gonna get rid of all of them I think.

Stupid question which spring should I opt for on a custom roller? What does each offer?

Conductivity between springs are very minimal you probably won't tell the different. I remember Atmizoo mentioning that the rhodium springs will take longer to degrade. I would just pick up some spares of the rhodium.

I had the same issue with my button getting hot also, did the same thing and cleaned everything. Still was getting the hot button even so there was no short. I found out that it was the spring that degraded. I saw areas of the spring that were deformed and there was allot of carbon build up. I removed the spring all together and just use a safe fuse. Atmizoo said you can get the best conductivity this way and at the same time have protection. Unfortunately if you want to go 18350 mode, you'll need need the spring or your battery will rattle. Atmizoo sells their spring for a good price and you have a choice of different coatings. If you don't want to pay the high shipping cost, you can just use SB/Omega hot springs sold at alt smoke.com.

Just know that Atmizoo doesn't advise using sub-ohms with the hot springs, they only suggest 1 ohms or above. So if your using low ohms, expect to have to maintain your springs every so often or replace them as needed.
