Hi again,

Two questions about atomizers:

1. Am I causing damage to my Cisco atomizers when I keep the button down for extended (10 second) draws? And maybe a 5 second break in between draws.

2. What is the most common way an atomizer "dies"? Completely stops firing? Slowly starts performing poorer? I'm using an atomizer lately that has been brilliant but is starting to emit this heinous tasting stuff. It's not dry burn it's some other chemical I've never smelt/tasted before. Not sure, but I don't think it's the juice

Are you using them on a REO? Dumb question I know but it's pertinent. Sometimes a flavor will hold in the o-ring of the REO bottle. I've only had on Cisco LR die on me and it went slowly. I clean mine weekly with PGA soaking for an hour or so and then blowing them out with compressed air. It really only takes a few minutes to clean an atty to rule out foul taste.

Now, TennDave is an atty killer. Maybe he will chime in!

yeh, when an atty starts to loose it's great taste a cleaning will usually solve that.

mine i usually concidder dead when the resistence start to rise, you can meter that with a mutimeter, or experience that by noticeable loss of vapor. also when after a cleaning and start to use them again a stiff draw occour pretty fast, they still meter good and taste good, but i just don't like a stiff draw. haven't had one really dead yet, i think :)

Have you tried draining your bottle and rinsing it out? I usually vape my bottle dry and rinse it out weekly. When using a reo (especially with a dirty atomizer/cartomizer) when you juice your atty it mingles with vaped on juice, and usually eventually changes the flavor for the worse. I blow out my atty and prime it with fresh juice every night, and as I said weekly rinse out the bottle. I also soak my atty in vodka weekly in my ultrasonic cleaner and then give it 3 cycles. of course since you haven't been cleaning atties you probably don't have an ultrasonic, but a quick soak in vodka or PGA (everclear) will work wonders. also if you are using a bridgeless atomizer you can use a fine tipped needle to gently break up some gunk from your coil before soaking. Hope that helps :)

Everyone has their preferred methods, but I boil my attys for 10 minutes after about a weeks use. I use one for a week, drop it in vodka, and then vape on the second for a week and then boil them both. It really does a great job of cleaning up the attys and restoring them about as close as you can get to new, IMO.

 as God is my witness you vape like me...seriously. I can't imagine it being good for attys but Im more concern with getting the hit I want so we are kindred spirits. ;)

First off, welcome to the team!!! Always good to see a new REOnaut on the forum. As for your questions.......

1. Yes, 10 seconds is way to long to be firing the button. It's kind of has the same effect as if you were to dry burn. If you continue this then you will pop the coil. Basically killing your atomizer. Anything up to 5 seconds is good. Which is already a long pull as it is.

Also, it's good to give your atty a break after 5 drags. At least a few minutes before you feed and vape again. This gives time for the coil to cool down. If you were to feed it immediately after the 5 drags. Then you can pop the coil.

2. When an atomizer "dies", it doesn't work at all. Sometimes it gives a long sizzle right before that happens. Other times there's no warning at all. You'll pick your REO up and decide you want to vape. Just to find out that the atty is dead.

As an atomizer is dying. Then there are some signs such as, decreased vapor and performance. There are occasions when it's due to the coil being dirty and it has to be cleaned. Another sign can be found by using a multimeter. When an atomizer ages. The ohms will either increase or decrease depending on how long it's been used. Compared to the original ohm rating. For instance, a 2 ohm atty can become a 1.1 ohms.

Normally, an atomizer lasts most people around a month. Personally, I get at least 4 months on average with mine. Since I clean my atties right after I finish a bottle. Which is why it's a good idea to maintain your atomizer fairly regularly to get the most out of it. Since they aren't exactly cheap.

The disadvantage of finding a juice that you enjoy I guess :)

I love your posts, Washvap So organized, well written and full of information.

psssst....sjoat isn't a new REOnaut.

Yeah thanks for blowing my cover :vapor:

@washvap, I remember reading a post months ago somewhere on ECF about someone using their PV as a smoke machine for a kiddies puppet show or something, lol. So I thought maybe they could take the beating. I agree that 10 seconds is a long draw - I've only started taking such long draws after changing the way I inhale - used to go straight into lungs with shorter draws, now I kinda play around with the vapour like a cigar smoker would. Just curious, how do _you_ clean your atomizers after each bottle?

I am the atty killer but I got all my attys to last through Bonnaroo- a 4 day music festival I just got back from (without killing one- a miracle!!!).

I think the constant vaping will blow the atty- probably what I have been guilty of doing- a little rest period between vapes or after 4 or 5 long inhales will go a long way in preserving them.

LOL I should really stop making assumptions. Anyways, thank you so much for the compliments Lisa :) It's much appreciated.

Sounds like a pretty skilled vapor to be doing all of that LOL The coils on atties are a bit more durable compared to a cartomizer or clearomizer. Although, they can be killed just as easily if one's not careful (got the receipts to prove it LOL)

I vape in the same way. Start off like it's a cigar and then inhaled. Which was the same way I smoked too ironically. You can get a bit more vapor this way since it's not as harsh on the lungs.

The way I clean atomizers is very simple compared to other methods. Here are two ways that I clean them:

1. In a container, put your atomizers in there. Then pour some distilled water and add a denture tablet. Let it sit for 2 hrs or overnight. Afterwards, I rinse them and blow them out.

2. Just about the same thing but, instead of distilled water and a denture tablet. I use 91% isopropyl alcohol. Then rinse them out thoroughly a few times with distilled water. So that there isn't anymore iso in there.

Then I let it dry for 24 - 48 hrs. Another thing that I do is check if the coil is gunked up or not. If so, then I'll dry burn it. Rinse it out again and letting it dry.

Forgot to mention that it's a good idea to have a few extra atties laying around. Especially when you clean. Personally, I save my dirty atties in a little container. When it gets to ten then I do a massive cleaning. Kind of lazy in that aspect LOL

Same here, I have several that I rotate through. When several are dirty--cleaning day!
