Dan, once again thanks for the legwork on collecting the info. The spread sheet is simple and efficient – what a handy resource. I’m having a hard time trying to figure out how to get those 68 coils of 16ga into the cup though… any ideas?

Use a coffee cup :)

quick question, Kanthal I keep seeing whats the difference between that and nichrome and what would be better for attys and the ce2's? I know people are using the kanthal at 32g and the nichrome at 36g so I know its thicker and resistance is different.

Kanthal has more Alum. in it which oxidizes well for use in SS mesh attys,

My coil wire of choice is kanthal a1 32ga as well. It hold up amazingly well...never had one pop even with really short coils that get hot instantly andmneed to be pulsed in 1 second intervals to keep from burning up your juice :)

It helped though that I have a kanthal factory next door to my office so they pretty much told me a1was really good stuff. They have a newer alloy now that is even a little better because it has the same strength characeristics and is a very fast reacting heat coil. I believe it's kanthal ae, but I'd have to double check that.

I have 3 ego tank atomizers. None of them work, well they heat up but no juice or anything. They leaked periodically. Looking for someone in the East Texas area that I can send them to to have them rewicked. I am pretty sure that is the issue as I can hear them. I can't make the wicks or install them due to having broken both of my wrists and had to have them fastened together with plates. I am willing to pay a reasonable price to have my ego tanks work right. They were awesome when I first received them. Alas that on lasted a week. Any help would be appreciated.

I have no idea where I'm at
Thanks so much Devilmama for putting it all together. And thanks to Asdaq for sorting out the metallurgy question. I have been frustrated by not being able to find out where to get the proper mesh, and I buy from McMaster-Carr, but never knew which mesh to even start with.

Thanks for doing all the hard labor on this one. Your work is greatly appreciated.

28µm wire thickness is pretty close to 0.001", same as McMaster-Carr. 400x400 at the same thickness, I think we can infer that the percentage of open area is also close enough. 225 square cm (around 35 square inches) will probably be plenty enough for one or two dozen atties or more. At around 2/3 McM-C's cost per sq inch and with a smaller minimum order, this is a great find. Well played BJ.

This Thread is so informative! Thank you all for the wealth of info on it. I just ordered my first deal of Kanthal A1 & $400 SS Mesh. Probably be about near the end of this month before everything comes in though. The Mesh I ordered from the UK.. Looking forward to putting it all together and see how things work!

..I forgot the part where it says here to 'do 1-second intervals or your juice burns' whoopsie! Mine definitely burned. That Kanthal is tough, though. Entire coil got red-hot! The juice actually caught fire! Just a tiny flame looked like a match, but it burned clear and light blue flame.. Still playing around with this stuff though, so I'm learning as I go.......
