Made a genesis type atomizer out of a phoenix rebuildable got a few questions?

I received a phoenix atomizer from vapor......com yesterday,and some 400 SS mesh,and some 32awg nichrome wire because they didn't carry the kanthal a-1.I watched the video from the link on the site about using SS mesh like is used in the genesis atomizers.Soon as I got done watching the video I gave it a go.I removed the wick and wire that came installed and started to oxidize the mesh.I didn't have a torch so I used a cigarette lighter and water.Since there was only nichrome to work with I wrapped the mesh about 4 and a half or maybe 5 times.Then measured with a ohm meter and it was about 1.9 so I put it in and tightened it down.I then put it on my lava tube and pushed the button.All the coil turned red except maybe the bottom wrap,so I added about twelve drops of BWB Blend in the top put a drip tip on and took a puff.It was the cleanest tasting vape I have ever had!!Had to go to the doctor today but used it all day with no dry hits or problems.Now here is my question,if the mesh wasn't oxidized right or If I had a short,will it ruin my lava tube,or is there some kind of short circuit protection built in the lava tube?Also what happens when you have a short?And is there any way besides using kanthal to improve the results that I've gotten so far with my modification??

Found this on a vendors site:

Short Circuit/Atomizer Protection. The LAVATUBE can recognize an atomizer with too low of a resistance for the current voltage setting and will drop the voltage to 3.7v to protect both the battery and atomizer. If the atomizer is too low or shorted out it will shut off power to the device to protect the LAVATUBE from being damaged.

I did the same thing with my Phoenix and Chalice, and my Mark-T has a horizontal SS Mesh wick. Doesn't get any better. Some people say that Kanthal tastes better than Nichrome. I use it because it is a bit stronger.

I haven't seen the chalice but would love to have one of the Mark-T atomizers!

It's a rebuildable similar to the Mark-T(same maker in fact), that is designed for bottom feeding. I use a vertical SS Mesh wick on it, with the wick just slightly down in the hole, so sqounking saturates the wick immediately, and then flows back to the bottle.
