My first noob question....

I continuously read about people burning through atomizers one or two a week ... for me, this would be quite alarming concidering I am not a heavy smoker by no means...

On the other hand .. I read about atomizers lasting 2-3 months... this I would like....

So my question follows, how do you keep and maintain your atomizer to get the maximum usage out of it... and also ...how do you know if it is bad?

Cold Pen-Style Atomizers. Broken wiring? NOPE!
Here's the deal. I've come to the conclusion that while some pen-style atomizers may die due to broken wires, that's not always the case.

Check out this little video and see what I'm talking about.

I've brought a cold atomizer back from the dead and I'm working on resurrecting a very weak atomizer, now...almost cold...I'm not 100% sure that I can do it but I am 100% sure that it CAN BE DONE...It's just a matter of finding out how.

It's my hope that this video will shed a bit of light on the situation and will get people out there thinking on ways to fix their "dead" atomizers instead of just chucking them out. Between all of the pen-style users out there I'm sure there's hundreds of "dead" atomizers that can be experimented with.

Now, To get a pen-style atomizer apart you grip the bottom band (where it attaches to the battery) with a small vice grips and the upper portion (where the cart attaches) with another small vice grips. Give it a gentle twist (don't want to break the wires) and the thing will pop free. Next, take a thin screwdriver or rod and push the atomizer out of the tube from the cartridge end.

If your wires are intact, you can start playing.

Is there a reason not to just let an atomizer sit in some Pepsi then?

I believe dripping directly onto the atomiser will shorten the life, rather than just topping off the cart.

Jamie--Terraphon reported he let the atomizer stand for 2 hours--so lets give it a try as "maintainence" and see how it goes. We all hope this will work out well as the atomizer issue the toughest issue to tackel as I am sure you are aware of. I think that hitting it with high heat afterwards, as Terraphon reported will be key. That atomizer that he got to fire up was a whimpy dud and he got it to vape like a smoke stack--what a result to say the least!!---Sun

You will quickly learn when an atomizer is dead or not functioning properly. That asumption is based on receiving a good atomizer with your e-cig.

A good rule of thumb (which I have trouble following myself) is to sit you atomizer upside down on a paper towel over night to let any accumulation of fluid seep out. Next morning, give the atomizer a drop or two of eliquid and/or load up a fresh cartridge and vape away. Keep the screw in connections on your device clean. A severely abused atomizer might require more invasive methods similar to the Pepsi bath suggested by Terraphon.
