I was thinking about possibly trying to sell my fixed VV batteries, and go in the MOD direction, instead of carrying to batteries with me. My question for all MOD users is it worth the size and price? I will be keeping it in my pocket my biggest vape I carry is a 1300 mah battery with a 3 ml tank and collar and it feels pretty big and heavy already. I don't know much about the mods like how to charge them. Do some have pass through charging? What are the benefits of a MOD besides being able to choose and replace your batteries.

Mods are just battery holders like you VV devices. You buy batteries and a battery charger for whatever size mod you have. I have a Nitecore Intellicharger i4 from Fast Tech which can charge all my battery sizes. A great new device is the Super T Simplicity 18650. Bewautifully made, will hold its value and like all 510 device, works with just about any style atomizer. The biggest benefit of a mod vs a hybrid is that you can use multiple types of atomizers - genesis, drippers, bottom feeders. The biggest benefit of a mod vs a VV machine is simplicity. You simply build your atomizer to work with the mod but that only really appplies if you like to tinker to figure out what works best. For me, mechanical mods all the way.

You generally get extra features on a larger mod such as VW. If you don't want something that's heavier than the 1300 twist or spinner, then you are better off staying with those however.

I use a variety of devices at home (Vamo, mechanicals) but I use 1100mAh twists when I'm out. One fully charged lasts me all day.

Do you really need to carry the second 1300mAh battery with you? You don't need to vape them flat each time - they will last longer if you don't. Use one device during the day and put it on charge when you get home, regardless of how flat it is. You then use the second device in rotation.

Only if I know that I'm not going to be home at the usual time do I take the second device with me (in an Ego zipper pouch along with spare juice and devices) but I rarely need to use it.

Actually one is a 1300 mah and the other is a 650 mah for back up, sometimes when I'm out my 1300 dies on me, because I don't charge it everyday. Lithium batteries don't quite work that way. The deeper the discharge, the less cycles you get.

Severe damage occurs at about 2.7V but most devices will cut out at around 3.2V (actual battery voltage, not output). The rated cycles is normally give as about 300 at this discharge level but damage is still occurring, just at a lesser amount. If you recharge the batteries with the internal voltage is about 3.5 or 3.6 volts you can get (maybe) 600 charges instead of 300.

Generally, with Lithium batteries you are better off charging more frequently and minimising full discharge cycles: Have a look at Table 2 - number of cycles as it relates to depth of discharge.

It sounds like you might need to get another battery, and some more devices to keep a different e-liquid in. Get the mod for home use if you want - you need something to vape on while the Egos are charging :D

I am new at this. But after buying 2 1100mah eGo's and 1 Twist and being about 30 days into this whole vape thing I bought a K-100 MOD and now wish I would have started here. I have as much in my K with 2 18350's and 2 18650 batteries as I had in the 3 old stick eGo batteries( I got my eGos local at full retail price). I have a intellicharger i4 for charging purposes. I use a Kanger Protank and 2 Mini Protank's. The K-100 is a little heavier than the eGo and bigger in circumference, but with the 18350 battery and the Mini it is shorter overall than with the eGo's. Perfect for work where I pocket carry. I wear slacks at work and it is not uncomfortable to walk or sit with the K-100/18350 bat/and Kanger Mini Protank all assembled and ready to use in my pocket.

I have been vaping over four years now. A mechanical mod has many advantages. For one they last. All the other devices I have owned have either died or I didn't care for them enough to keep longer than a week. With a mechanical mod you simply pick your ohms and no you don't have to get crazy and go super low either. I find anything under 1.5 to be disgusting and 1.8 on a 3.7volt battery to be perfect. Buy good protected batteries like and a cheap clone mod and it's not that expensive. If you are worried about staying in budget I would suggest the K100 from fast tech, with 2600mah sanyo protected batteries and a decent charger. It doesn't have to be an expensive one to be a good one. A vivi nova with 1.8ohm heads is also nice if you don't already have something similar. If you have a little extra buy the panasonic 3400 protected batteries. Although either set is leaps and bounds above most batteries because most batteries are not even close to the mAh that they claim they are. Stay away from all $##$fire batteries because they are mostly junk and not even close to the value of the Sanyo 2600's. Never believe the claims on any of the trustfire/ultafire batteries. They sell plastic wrappers so you never know what is under them. The Sanyo 2600's are the best bang for your buck and should last all day and night anyway. This is a setup that should last you for years and give a consistently good vape all the time. Also you can run it over with your car and it will keep working. Drop in in the mud or snow, no problem. Throw it at a tree if you want, you will hurt the tank but not the mod. Also batteries last longer per mAh in mechanical mods because no energy is wasted on the electronics.

Dependable, long lasting, durable, consistent and affordable too. It's not like 4 years ago when the only good 18650 mods set you back a hundred bucks just for the mod.

Newbie question, How do you charge a mod? I have a vv pass through battery and also a 510 battery. I hate that I can't vape and charge with the 510 but will keep as a backup, I like the idea of a pass through battery, but am going to try to exchange my vv pass through because it is very inconsistent at the same voltage as far as power. Just wanted to know if any mods are pass troughs or if you need to use an external battery charger, and if that's also sold separate from the mod and batteries.

Thanks, I just got the eVic starter kit and one of the vapor stores I go to today, and it is a pass through. The only question or issue I have is I don't know what "starter kit" they sold me? I seen online the kit comes with a 2600 mah Sanyo battery, a wall charger and instructions and the box. I didn't get instructions, the wall charger or the 2600 mah Sanyo battery. Instead I got a large Ego zip up case and a 2250 mah battery, I think brand is "EH"? Not sure if there's different kits out there or if they kept the external chargers and Sanyo battery and replaced it with the Ego case and lower mah battery.

I have no need for pass through charging capabilities. An 18650 battery lasts me easily a day and a half, and on work days they last longer. Plus, I have two, and I don't think I need to get an extra one either. Variable Power control is the big factor in having a mod for me. Easy to use and it gives a consistent hit until the battery is completely dead. I tossed the decision back and forth between provari and totally wicked's vape-pro. I went with the vape-pro. Not only was it cheaper, it just seems to be a better quality from what I saw in both hands on experiences. I don't think provari has variable Power either.

The starter kit will vary with the vendor. They decide what type of starter kit they want to sell, and buy the parts from the vendor. You'll see different batteries supplied with a particular mod, and different options for charging etc. A bare minimum for the eVic would be the eVic head, a battery tube, battery, and a USB cable for charging off the computer and using the software. They probably only buy the eVic head and the battery tube off the manufacturer and source the other parts from wherever it suits them.

If you didn't get a manual you should download one, eg Joyetech Manual Download

I have been using a vv/vw Tesla mod and have loved it way more than the spinners vv. I just ordered a mechanical mod for myself and a friend but mine hasn't came in yet. I tried his out and I have to say it hit amazing. I got him a k-100 and I ordered myself a Magneto on preorder which is supposed to ship out on the 25th. I also admit, I get a kick out of going into public with these bad boys as vaping hasn't really taken off yet in Kokomo, Indiana. I always get at least one person asking what the heck I have and they always think it looks sweet.
