There is a hearing currently scheduled for this Wednesday 4/14 before the Human Services Committee in Springfield. We are not certain that it will actually occur, though, because the House sponsor of the bill, Rep. Colvin, must call the bill for the hearing to take place. We're hoping to find out Monday whether he intends to call the bill and whether the hearing will go forward on Wednesday.

This is why you joined CASAA!! (Even if you aren't a member of CASAA you need to participate!)

Please contact myself, Treece or JustJulie ASAP to confirm you will be attending this very important meeting to protect your right to vape!!!

So far, not one Illinois resident has stepped forward to say they will be attending, while Treece and JustJulie are traveling from Missouri to help you fight this ban!!

If Illinois residents want to continue to legally purchase ecigs in your state (and allow Illinois-based companies like Cignot and Vapor4Life to remain in business and sell to thousands of customers around the country) YOU need to step up now and make a showing at this meeting. Treece and Julie can't do it by themselves!!

Please contact us ASAP!

We're still waiting to hear back from Rep. Colvin's office. I called first thing this morning, but his assistant hasn't yet been able to reach him. I'll be calling again in another hour or so.

At this point, it's still set for hearing at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, Stratton Building Room D-1 Springfield, IL.

For those Illinois residents unable to attend, perhaps you could take a moment to write a few paragraphs about your personal experiences with e-cigs and how they have affected your life. No need to write up something scientific or legal . . . just speak from your heart.

Any Illinois residents with a personal story to share can contact me via PM about the best way of getting me your "testimony." I'll be out for a bit this afternoon, but I will keep checking back.

I will attend. Is everyone meeting ahead of time for lunch or something?

Assuming the hearing actually occurs on Wednesday, let's plan on meeting outside the building at 8:30 a.m. Those planning on attending should PM me, and I'll make sure you have my cell phone number to coordinate.

Sounds like this Colvin guy can't be trusted anyways. Even if we think its not gonna happen, what if he shows up and introduces the bill while we are at home watching TV? I wouldn't trust what someone says on the phone who more than likely doesn't know squat and just wants to get off the phone. Me and my friends are going for sure. We just wanna meet up with everyone so we look stronger as a group. Illinois residents need to stand up and help try and stop this. Even if it inconveniences you a bit. I have 3 kids, all in school, and have to drive from Chicagoland area. Definately an inconvenience but its a necessary one because I need my e-cigs to stay away from the dreaded analogs. PLEASE Illinois, lets not let them take away our right to vape. We know they are trying to take our vaporizers away from us. Why wait till they do and cry about it? We need to act swiftly!!!!

Well, Colvin didn't check in with his office today. Very, very frustrating. So I'll call again in the morning and keep checking in with the office in hopes of hearing something.

I am planning on leaving St. Louis Tuesday evening and spending the night in Springfield. I will update on this thread as soon as I know anything . . . but I don't know what to say at this point other than folks ought to plan on being there. Who knows . . . even if it isn't called for hearing, maybe they'll let us talk.

Plan is to meet outside the building at 8:30 a.m. Human Services Committee Hearing Apr 14 2010 Stratton Building Springfield, IL. The hearing is set for 9:00 a.m. in Room D-1.

Folks planning on attending, please PM me so I can give you my cell phone number so we can coordinate the day of.

Please check back to this thread tomorrow.

Julie,

If nothing else - how about a group photo?

FYI I did leave messages for you Kristen, and I appreciate your desires. I have been working to get to the proper person, cause only 1 man can sign this bill, and make it official.;)

I am working on it. OTOH, as the bill is written, it really does NOT stop my company from doing business, as usual, nor supplying our customers.

I am more than happy to support you, and help.

Regards

Julie,

If nothing else - how about a group photo?

We'll get photos no matter what. ;)

And even if we show up and it doesn't wind up getting called for a hearing, it won't be a waste of our time. We're traveling with our computer and printer, and we'll get people busy handing out flyers, stuffing legislative mail boxes, and generally out there educating folks . . . and having fun while they do it. :)
