Attention Newbies: What do you want to know????

It could be something quite simple so monthly maintainance cost of 1 new battery and 1 new attomiser for each product so that newbies can quickly compare the ongoing cost of a 510 vs a SD for instance, with perhaps a colun at the end with first years cost, this would help people see that some of the cheaper devices are more expensive in the long run.

I think if were going to create a comprihensive database of these devices then we should include data like thread sizes, voltage and other technical specs so that it can be cross referenced for interchangeable parts and modding info as well. i'm sure the veterans in the modding forums could help us collect that type of information.

i understand we may be getting out of the range of just newbie info, but this could benifit everyone from intro to advanced.

I also vote for some good info on sizes. I had to break out a measuring tape to look things up, but that got too complicated to figure out how different pv's compared to each other.

A good close up of different models next to a ruler, and next to each other (and well labeled!) would have been immensely helpful.

Also a general range as far as expected lifespan of components, and a guide as to how many ml of liquid one should buy to last for the first 2 weeks or so (long enough to decide if you like it, and to order more, and for it to arrive)

I've already got a good section of what to buy to "really" get going (the whole starter kit thing lacks a few key parts, IMO) So, that is covered.

The problem with the sizing pictures is that I do not own every model to take those pictures, otherwise I would be happy to do it for everyone. Unfortunately, I'm not so economically sound to purchase them all either LOL. But I will do my best to describe them in regards to a pack of regular cigarettes- seeing as thats a common ground in which we are all coming from I think that will work alright. "This model is just a few CM larger then a normal cigarette" "This model is about an inch larger then a regular cigarette" ect ect. The biggest problem I have with that is width, though I've been trying to compare them to things like pens or markers however with out owning all the models again, there is my hurdle.

There was an article on here where there was a formula given for the monthly cost of vaping vs the monthly cost of smoking analogs. I will see if the author will let me use that and get going on a simpler table- if even for the time being. A table and a posted formula might require the guest to do some math and figure it out for themselves, but it would be better then not knowing what to even compare together.

I am really not a database person *nudges nugget* so I might need some help *hint hint*

This is good guys, really good. I was not aware that cost was such an important factor.

The reason cost was an important factor to me (and I would assume it's the same for many) is that I am on a strict budget, the cost of cigs is built into that, but the e-cig had to come out of the cigarette budget, so I had to be sure that if I bought it and didn't like it i wouldn't end up with no cigs, and that the costs in the first few months weren't going to go over the cig budget.

Smoking roll ups I spent relatively little on cigarettes too so it is going to be a couple of months before I break even (as you can see by the amount I have saved in 2 weeks of e-ciging it hadn't even covered a quarter of what I have spent yet)

ETA if you want some case studies of real life spends I'm happy to document what I spend over the next couple of months, and i have details of what I have spent to date.

So far what I have done is given a formula to figure out what the cost would be. Something similar to "Starter kit+start up costs. Then 1 atty+1battery+carts= monthly equipment cost. Then DIY juice cost." compared to a pack a day habit at $6 a pack. I think it'll due for opening- but updates are always needed!

Second, I am considering turning the tutorials section into a reviews section- and posting model reviews and juice reviews both of my own and anyone who wants to donate one. I am not sure if reviews are the way to go or if I should keep trying to find stuff to do tutorials over...

i want to know about voltage. i'm reading around that most PVs are 3.7v and people have modded them to 5v even 6+. i'm assuming the higher the voltage the more vapor and the more throat hit, right? i'm looking to get a prodigy v1 and i'm a little confused about the switch kit. the V1 is a 5v device right? a separate switch kit can make it into 6v+?

my question is what are the risks you take when going 5v or 6v+? does it killy my atty faster? if i'm super careful and keep the thing wet all the time will it last longer? what are the chances of burning out an atty on a high voltage device? is a higher voltage always better?

I'm to new to know what to ask. Heard about ecigs about 3 weeks ago. Researched for about 2. Found this site last tuesday and didn't really know to much about what you guys were talking about and don't know much more then that now. I only knew that i didn't want to fill cartridges or anything like that. I wanted it as close to a regular cigarette situation as I could get:

1. Pull cigarette from pack
2. Light cigarette
3. Smoke cigarette

With this PremiumEcigarette PR110 it does exactly that skipping step 2. The battery last all day and the cartridges taste good, but I have nothing else to compare it too. So I guess its good. It will take long term use to see if it stands up to the sellers pitch. If it does... very cool.

I think it would be great to start a rating system that all of us here can contribute to. We should vote on things like best vapor production, best throat hit, easiest draw, best e-cig overall, etc. As a noob i had a hard time sifting through all the information on which model is good for what and i wound up buying a model that wasn't right for me.

I also think it's important to have a database of all models we know of and some basic info about them, like:
Is it a mod (does it take batts you can buy at radio shack, what attys does it take, does it have an LED)?
Is it generic or brand name only (can i shop around for the best price on parts or can i only buy parts from a handful of companies)?
Does it have automatic or manual batteries?
Is it 3 part or 2 (cartomizer)?
What colors does it come in (what companies sell the unique colors)?
What color LED's are available (can i buy one with no LED)?
What problems are common with this model (short battery life, battery activates with noise, etc)?
What parts from other models are compatable with this one ("universal" charger)?

Of course i could go on forever, but you get the idea ;-) these are just a few of the many questions that took weeks for me to find answers on this forum.
