All polling organizations have a bunch of "dummy" questions they ask the people they poll. They bury the actual questions in amongst the dummy questions. Sometimes they report on dummy question results.

All of them seem to use some variant of this: "Adolf Hitler was a swell guy. (yes/no)" as a dummy question. And all of them use a variant of this: "Force of arms will be necessary to solve our political disagreements. (yes/no)." The former always gets a few percent "yes" responses, and so it was the case with the latter. In the summer of 2013, Quinnipiac (I think it was them) reported a 23% "yes" response to the latter.

That nearly a quarter of the population polled thinks we may have to have armed rebellion terrifies me.

Well that’s what we get for spending the last 30 years hammering our youth with all the negative aspects of being an American while never ever promoting any of the positives. There are things we do and say in front of our children that are far worse than vaping or smoking.

I doubt it makes the slightest bit of difference what we call it--it still "looks" like smoking to the City Council of Los Angeles. It was pointed out that were it later discovered that vaping is harmless, it still looks like smoking, and thus they'd ban it anyway. My words, here, but that was the essence of what I read in the LA Times.

Sweet looking ride there, what year is it?

You're right, in general cops will probably only issue a citation when someone complains, which will happen more often with a ban in place ...

But I have seen armed transit cops writing tickets for smoking at the train station in Oceanside. They hide behind the vending machines when a bus pulls in from LA, then ambush anyone who lights up during the layover. Its a sure thing to get a few from every bus, at $250 a pop ... :glare:

Always good advice, especially after a lunch heavy on garlic ...

Saw an ugly scene developing as I got out of my car at work this morning. A young guy in the parking lot blowing massive clouds for the amusement of his buddies, and a security guard headed in their direction with a grim expression ...

Somebody went to the "principal's office" ... :(

All these stupid politicians saying "the jury is still out" and "let's err on the side of safety" have just dealt a blow to real science or, at least, hav3e not done any homework. There is a ton of information out there, it just doesn't say what these anti-nicotine zealots want to hear, so they stick their fingers in their ears. It's maddening! Seriously, I'm just about (again) done with the cancer sticks, and now the city I live in wants me to have to be exposed to second hand smoke, not only tempting me to go back but exposing me to all those chemicals I've finally found a way to avoid! Really Long Beach city council?!?

Just a thought, but I'm wondering if a vaper who has been off cigs long enough and gets lung cancer or any other disease she/he can relate back to second hand smoke can sue the city? Might be what it takes...

No way, hippiebrian. Governmental units are protected from such lawsuits by law. Basically, your city government can enact policies and ordinances that kill you, and they get off scot-free.

Remember, you do have the option to move. Were we living in Long Beach, my wife and I would be looking for a new place to live. Evanston, Illinois, where we're currently living (and I was born and raised here) and which has enacted a similar ordinance, are doing just that.
