I have had two atomizers give me problems in the last couple of days. One is a Janty and changed resistance from 2.4 when I got it to 5.6 over night. I've cleaned it out and the resistance is staying constantly at 5.6ish.

The other one is bubbling and melting the paint on it. It's the scorpion one with the red stripe. The black and red paint are bubbling up and coming off slowly. This actually worries me a bit. I've set it to the side til I can razor off all the paint before using it again. I don't want that stuff in my vapor.

Anyone had similar problems.

Did you notice if those particular atomizers had been "running hot"? It's possible that the plastic venturi that sits under the visible part of the atomizer got over-heated and the hole melted shut. Perhaps that is why the resistance is higher?

There is a post/thread somewhere by Scottbee with pictures of the inside of a 510 atomizer with a melted venturi. Also, he and a few others have been able to re-open the hole and save the atomizer. If you do a search I am sure you can find the threads/posts with the details.

As far as the paint bubbling on them  - again, did you notice that they were running very hot? Perhaps, hot enough to damage the cosmetic decoration on them?

I've had this problem (atties running hot and giving off a horrid burned chemical taste and smell), but none of my 510 atomizers are cosmetically decorated. I only have the plain black ones.

The only time I've slightly damaged the finish is when (in a frustrated last ditch attempt to solve the "hot burned chemical taste" I was getting) I used my hand held steam cleaner on 2 of them and held the atomizer with a kelly clamp or a surgical needle puller to avoid my hand being near the steam. The clamps put "dings" into the black paint.

I am sure someone with actual technical knowledge will be along to offer you help and suggestions. :)

I scraped all the paint off, careful not to get any inside the atty. I was kinda surprised to find the Janty logo under the red paint, ha. I can't seem to find that thread on them clogging and causing the resistance to increase. I guess I'm just not a master search guy.

The one that I scraped off is working great now, and it seems the flavor is better. A lot of the bad taste from that other thread I started seems to be cleared up for the moment. I guess I'll only be buying the "titanium" colored atomizers from now on. I don't really want paint in my vapor, it was quite disgusting to say the least.

Yuck - I can only imagine! If the Janty logo was underneath the paint... hrrm - that makes me wonder if the supplier who re-branded the product used paint that caused the atomizer to run hotter? Is it possible that the paint could have created an "insulation" effect?

I'm on a personal mission to figure out the whole Joye atomizer manufacturing deal. Too many of us have had problems lately with Joye atomizers (hot, burned chemical taste and smell) - I doubt it can all be chalked up to "new user error". Figuring out how to properly use these things isn't quantum physics and the "collective we" are not daft!

Would you mind sending me a PM and telling me who you purchased your 510 stuff from?

I'm collecting information, ordering atomizers from different suppliers and I'll soon start a thread asking people who have had problematic Joye atomizers to post and exchange information.

Interesting... and I'm glad that scraping the paint off them resolved the problem!

Eew... that bubbling melted paint must have been awful to smell, let alone inhale :(

An aside: I've been using the Tornado now since Friday, with one of the supplied Joye atomizers with absolutely none of the harsh chemical burned awfulness issues that have been discussed in many threads. Hrrm...

Have a look through this thread (if you haven't already) - http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/joye-510/43406-everything-you-ever-wanted-know-about-your-510-a.html

I know it's really long, but the discussions regarding the problem atties and the pictures of the melted venturi are at the end of the thread, maybe the last 10 pages?

I'll double check and if I'm wrong and they are in another thread... I'll post the link so you can see it. It was interesting and really got me thinking! :)

Once the resistance goes up, there is basically nothing you can do to get it to come back down. The atty will run cool/cold, and it's done.

Sorry. :(

Lo and behold, that atty just started registering 2.5 ohms out of nowhere when I changed it tonight. And yes I know how to use the meter. It's been freshly cleaned each time I've checked it as well. No clue, but at least the other one is firing right along at the moment.

The increased air resistance created by a melted air intake is not the same as the increased electrical resistance that's mentioned here. ;)

ahhh - thanks marc - I just learned how to use the meter to check my atties recently when I was having some problems. I have a digital read one and found out it's very simple to do. I just haven't figured out the *why* of everything yet :)
