I was having a discussion with another member regarding the coil temperature in an atty during a "dry burn".

I asserted than since the coil was glowing bright red (or orange) the temp must be 900F or more based on this chart:

C F Color

400 752 Red heat, visible in the dark
474 885 Red heat, visible in the twilight
525 975 Red heat, visible in the daylight
581 1077 Red heat, visible in the sunlight
700 1292 Dark red
800 1472 Dull cherry-red
900 1652 Cherry-red
1000 1832 Bright cherry-red
1100 2012 Orange-red

C= Centigrade
F= Farenheit

My partner asserts that coil temps never reach much beyond what the FDA asserted from their tests using a thermocouple. (I understand that the FDA's measurements weren't conducted on a "dry" atty.)

Quote:

The temperature of the heating element in each e-cigarette was determined by inserting a thermocouple and then activating the e-cigarette by drawing air through it. These temperatures ranged from 40 to 65°C. HSGC-MS analysis was conducted at 60°C to simulate the temperature that would be encountered during activation of an e-cigarette.

...and he in fact did his own test using a probe with a DMM and found the coil temp to be only 275F after a 15 second burn.

I can't account for his results but to me this is a no-brainer and I can't seem to convince him otherwise.
Of course I could be wrong.....

What say you?
