my buddy is in that limbo state right before the first purchase. he asked about carts: prefilled vs empty and about cleaning:

the cartomizers dont have to be cleaned. most are sold empty and usually hold 20-25 drops. the prefilled ones seem to be barely filled. i think they sit on shelves to long and evaporate. but they can be refilled too. after 5/6 refills you toss them. now with the atomoizers. they are simple to clean. at night i just blow the old juice out from the battery connected side. then put them in a old 20oz with hot water and shake it for 20 sec. rinse repeat. i shake for a fe seconds to get most of the water out and let it dry on a paper towel. another common way to clean is use a high proof vodka or ever clear, really any grain alcohol and let them soak. this is ok if you have no finish on your atomizer (silver) if you get black it will make the coating come off. also get type b!! for some reason the type a taste bad to me. i tried a few different type a cone addys and they all taste the same. type b is bigger, holds more juice cylinder shaped. hope this helps!

i early also referenced him here, the best tool on the internet for a noob-advanced user!! but it still feels good to help and feel a lot less of a noob myself

battery + atomizer + cartridge aka cart (ok for new vapers, most switch to cartomizers for everyday vaping)

sealed manual battery + atomizer + drip tip (good for testing juices)

battery + cartomizer aka carto (cartos are like having a new atomizer every time you start one and keep your flavors totally separate. They don't leak as much as carts. they have limited lives - cannot be restuffed and the coil inside degrades. I can get 7-10 days use out of a carto.)

And for all, you need to use appropriate ohms - the hotter low resistance attys and cartos are not for use on slim ecigs. 450mah+ batteries (fat models and mods) can use LR stuff.

My cartridges will last untill I break it. An atty's last me on the average of 4-6 months. I use the blue foam filling. Cleaning is easy with an ultrasonic cleaner with just plain water. I buy XL cartridges($.48@) and atty' that cost $6.00@. My cartridges hold about 15-20 drops. I am one of those "older" have not switched to carto's and no intention to do so. I vape 1-2 ml per day and tend to change flavors about 2-3 X day so this works for me.
